Zumo 550 Map Info

First let me say hello and thank you to the active members of this forum. I've been using POI factory for 2 years now. And while I've received tons of information and data from the site, this is my first post. I have searched to see if someone has asked this question before and couldn't find anything. If it has been asked, I apologize.

I have a Zumo 550 and recently loaded the 2010.30 lifetime maps. When I go into tools, and Map Info, both the old maps and the new ones are listed and both are check marked. Does that mean both are loaded? I thought the download would replace the old maps. Should I uncheck the old 2008 maps? Thanks in advance. George, Reston Va.

.

When you upgraded your maps, did you RUN the map update program which would have enabled the program to overwrite the old maps with the new maps?

Or did you load them in some other way?

Did you at some time in the past accidentally send maps from MapSource when you were sending routes, waypoints or tracks?

.

If they both show, then they are both 'there' as far as the device is concerned. However the Zumo 550 isn't imbued with a huge amount of memory and two full sets of US maps are not going to fit in the available memory, so perhaps something didn't work right with your update.

I see from the reply that preceeded this one that it was suggested that you might have transferred maps to the device from Mapsource rather than installing them - another possibility

Unchecking a map does not unload it from memory. However you really don't want to have two overlapping maps enabled at the same time.

Miss POI

I followed the directions

I followed the directions from My Garmin for the download. Didn't purposely download anything from Map Source. I remember I did not have room for the entire download and had to select Lower 48 states only. Don't plan on riding outside of the anyway, but hate wasting memory. Would you recommend going into the files via Explorer and deleting the old version? Thanks, George (2000 Harley Ultra Classic) with a Zumo 550.

.

If you sent any supplmentary maps to the navigator, they will be in the gmapsupp.img file - THAT you ought to be able to safely delete, then reboot and see what's left.
