G'day,
My new 255W seems to have a lot of stuff utilizing memory that I will never use. I've already pulled the alternate languages off of it but I was wondering if there may be a list of other items I could remove without affecting my day-to-day operation.
Thanks,
Ski

Remove the vehicles you do not use, check for travel guides and audio books (if 255W supports them).

Jpeg pictures
Look in the "Garmin" folder on your unit and you will see the folder "JPEG". this has a bunch of picture samples. Not a lot of storage, but every little helps. I would also make a complete backup of all the stuff on your Garmin before you start deleting to much, then if you delete a critical file by mistake you can always get everything back.

help files
You can also delete the help files (if you don't need them).
Garmin 205, 260W, 1450LMT, 2460LMT, HEREwego for iPhone ... all still mapping strong.
Rules for production systems--
In the computer - information technology business, a "production system" is a system that you rely on, usually 24 by 7, to run one or more aspects of your business. A system you rely on.
The number one rule -- don't mess with production systems. Don't add things, or remove things, without a very, very good reason, and without very, very good backups.
At home, I have a windows box sitting off in a corner that's a production system, running a bunch of infrastructure things (windows only infrastructure things, unfortunately). It gets backed up regularly. Nothing gets added to that machine, and even updates are carefully screened.
I treat the Nuvi the same. It's a production system. I rely on it. I'll update POIs, but pulling files from other folders? Why? Particularly since updating maps (every 2 years) might force re-installs of a bunch of those things?
I'm a technology freak and I like to tinker as much as the next nerd. But production systems I tend to leave alone.

UnNecessay Stuffs
I didn't delete them in case if I make mistake. I do cut & paste into my computer. I created a folder in my computer MyNuVi_Stuffs then I cut from my GPS & paste them into that folder. I only have American English TTS (male & Female) and only 2 Vehicles. I also removed help files also as above user mentioned. I did gain a good amount of space for my custom POIs. basically you can remove the voice/language files you don't use and also Vehicles. I would say better than nothing
