Garmin Traffic Help Please!

Greetings:

I have a Nuvi 760 for two years now. Boxed with a 3 month subscription with its GTM 20 cable. Soon thereafter I bought a MSN direct cable and switched for what I thought was a better bang for the buck feature-wise. Now that subscription has also ended, plus MSNDirect is ending soon too. I am using my GPS mainly in the Baltimore market area. I am well aware of other previous posts, and have searched to read them, but was hoping for some fresh input from knowledgeable users. It seems that I have the 2 following choices:
--------------------------------------------------------
Premium Traffic Subscription by Navteq – North America
Part Number: 010-11362-00
Suggested Retail Price: $ 49.99 USD
Downloadable
Item: Premium Traffic Subscription

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Premium Traffic Subscription by Clear Channel – North America
Part Number: 010-11363-00
Suggested Retail Price: $ 60.00 USD
Downloadable
Item: Premium Traffic Subscription

Yes, there are a few posts discussed about the comparison.

Here is one of them http://www.poi-factory.com/node/26413

To my reading here, some people said better feedback about Clear Channel.

One thing I am not sure is Navteq lifetime subscription purchased is different from my nuvi 265wt with crappy ad-supported!

Thanks for the response!

660 traffic

I recently ran into the same situation. Navteq is what I switched to. Both seem to have similar pro's and con's. Navteq seemed to provide service in the places I visit most.

btw - I bought a 255 for my wife.

Traffic

mmmmmm Doesn't really seem to be any concise answer to these various services. I suppose they all just score average grades depending on who's doing the scoring! With MSN Direct there were a lot of false alarms as to the conditions. Updates were behind enough to the point that it became a "Cry Wolf" reaction to an alert.

clear chanel trafic

I read that pop-up ads came up with the clear chanel trafic - have you read or heard this ?

Nope no pop-up ads with paid subscription to Clear Channel

With paid subscription services there are no pop-up advertisements. If you do see one, call up Garmin and they will tell you how to fix it ... in fact one of the threads here discussed which folder/files to delete on the Garmin Nuvi device to disable pop-up Ads.

Aha .. here is the thread (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6095) and this is what Frank508 said :

"I figured out a way to get rid of them with a little help from my good friends 'find' and 'strings'. If you mount the device and delete the file Garmin/Poi/ddb/RDS_LBA.ddb, you'll be ad-free. At least until the next time they update the firmware to disallow this."

Clear Channel -

I have Clear Channel for Life in the Sacramento Area and am very satisfied with it. It all boils down on how fast a service gets the information and posts it to their system. In this area, it's Clear Channel.

I know that doesn't help you much in your area, but that's what it's like in the Upper Left Coast for me.

I had read that ( not sure

I had read that ( not sure where ) that if you turned off the pop-ups that the traffic stop working.

Traffic

Well, it seems that Clear Channel appears to be the one most mentioned!

ClearChannel

I'm for ClearChannel. There are no ads.

I've been pleased with Clear Channel

here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Also worked well when I went to Texas recently.

WARNING: traffic display problems with 4.8 firmware

Slightly off topic but many of us are having significant problems with traffic on the Nuvi.

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/27301

I have a lifetime clear channel subscription and since upgrading to 4.8, I no longer see any traffic display on my maps. I get delay updates and rerouted but I can't see any color overlays or incidents on maps.

Efforts to get any real information out of garmin support have been completely fruitless.

I have 4.8 on a nuvi 760 without issues. I did have problems with traffic icons and their messages not showing on the map when the map that I had loaded was installed incorrectly and or was housing the older map on the inserted memory card or visa-versa!

There are no ads with the Navteq paid lifetime

I have both Navteq and Clear Channel lifetime in my receiver and there are no ads with either of the paid lifetime subscriptions just with the "free" lifetime that comes with some Garmin units.

In Tucson Navteq covers a lot more roads and is more accurate then Clear Channel so I guess it must vary by area.

Disabling just one traffic channel?

Is there a way to disable just Clear Channel? It sucks in my area and I would like to use Navteq?

So the questions I have

So the questions I have are:

Is anyone using this in the Memphis TN area

and is it really worth the money? all I see are complaints?

thanks
