Installed POI what now?

HI All

I downloaded the first POI to my nüvi 260W, put what now?

I can see the POI's on the nüvi's extra folder and I can search the POI's in there. Are the POI's suppose to be displayed on the maps or do I have to search for them every time?

If the POI's are not automatically displayed how much sense would it make for me to download the RLC locations?

Thank you for your help

While you can display your POIs when looking at the map in higher magnification, generally you can use the downloaded POIs when you are looking for specific sites near your location and then using them as a destination. They are listed in order of distance from your current position, with a limitation of the nearest 50. Note that the distance is "as the crow flies", and actual driving distance will be calculated once you select a specific POI.

The RLC as well as Speed Cameras are handled differently. In addition to the above characteristics, they will automatically appear and sound an alarm as they are approached.

Thank you, that is what I was looking for.

I am still new here and have to say that I find the POI factory Web site hard to navigate. I have looked at ohter sites as well that seem to be easier.

I may ask a question that has been askes a million times simply becaus I have no clue how this site is organized.

I am a new user also and I

I am a new user also and I am having the same problems you are. I downloaded several POIs and I was surprised that they do not show up on my Gamin. I even downloaded the .bmp files for each POI file and still no luck. Nothing shows on my Garmin. Please let me know about these other POI sites. I only know of this one.

.

Did you load them to your GPS unit with POI Loader?
Do they show up in your menus?
Do they show up if you zoom ALL the way in on your map screen?

Have you read through the "getting started" and "faq" pages linked at the top of every page on POI Factory?
Have you read the instructions for loading BMPs file icons?

Where to find and show your installed POI's.

I too am a newbie as I just got my Nuvi 255W for Christmas. I find this forum very helpful.

After using POI Loader to install the POI on your device, then you can find your custom POI's by choosing "Where To?", then "Extras". You will be able to see them there. grin

I have to agree....I also find the site difficult to use.....I guess the "learning curve" on this one is just a little steeper.

There seems to be a lot of great information......and a tremendous amount of work put into it.....so climbing the "curve" will be worth the effort.

FAQ

Hi,

Starting in the FAQ section was the biggest help for me when I started just a month ago. Once you really get going here I think you'll all find this site very useful.

Learning curve....

My suggestion would be to read...read...read. A lot of the questions that get asked here by newbies are answered, (or have been answered), on a day to day basis. I also would suggest that you read Gary Hayman's website on installing and creating POI's. This guy is good and entertaining. You will find the site at: http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/pagepoi.htm#poi...
Good luck with the new GPS' and have fun on this site. The more you visit this site, the more you will learn.

I received my Garmin 1350T

I received my Garmin 1350T as a Christmas gift from my wife this year and I love it.

I just discovered this site yesterday and I've been going crazy customizing my GPS and uploading POIs. I haven't had much trouble at all navigating this site. It takes some getting used to, as do most new sites.

Thanks for all the hard work everyone's put into this site. I look forward to contributing as much as I can. I'm a GIS Analyst, so this information isn't really anything new to me, just the application of it.
