Speed limits for Baltimore speed cameras

Hi all,

I hope everyone's holiday was great.

I noticed that there is no speed info for most of the Baltimore combo red light & speed cameras, perhaps because they don't seem to bother posting a lot of speed limit signs there. I haven't been able to find much doing web searches, but I believe that the speed zone for the camera at Franklin and Cathedral is 25 MPH, at least my GPS' potentially outdated map data seems to think so.

Is there a good source for this info somewhere? I'm going to be back in the city and driving through that particular area again on Monday, so I'll see if I can at least spot a nearby speed-limit sign somewhere.

Cheers,

- Phil

over the limit by 12MPH

I recall WBAL saying you won't get fined unless you are 12MPH over the posted limit. But as you said, what is the posted limit?

And double check my source...I only recall the limit; not quote it. smile

30 might be a safe default??

I did a search on some MD web sites but couldn't really find the info you were looking for, but I found this-
http://mlis.state.md.us/asp/web_statutes.asp?gtr&21-801.1
and although the law goes on to say that local municipalities can reduce the speeds as it deems necessary.. it seems like 30 mph might be a safe bet until you find exact speeds?

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

I think the prima facia speed is 25

If I remember correctly, the basic speed limit for all streets is 25 unless otherwise posted. It would be a city ordinance, but most counties in MD have a 25 MPH primary speed limit. I load my camera file with with 25 in the file name.

Statewide with local overrides

The basic statewide limit law is the link I posted, but like it says local jurisdictions can change it. It's 30 for business districts and undivided residential and 15 for Balt. County alleys. I never did find a Balt. City link though.

I think 25 is the Mont. Co. default also.
