Track to computer?

I have read that you can download where you have been to a computer but I have never seen any post that tells you how you would do that? Is there a method of downloading your track to a computer?

I have a Garmin 760.

Thanks in advance.

MapSource

You can transfer the track log from your Nuvi to MapSource using the Transfer menu in MapSource. Also there is a lengthy discussion about a hidden raw track log feature on another forum here http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=98909

Do you have Mapsource

If so just click on "Transfer ..Retreive from Device". You can then check what you want to transfer - Tracks is one of the choices.

If you're using the raw

If you're using the raw logging, you can just drag the files directly from the device to a directory on your computer in windows.

You don't need Mapsource

Mapsource is Garmin's own program, and can be costly to get from Garmin depending on the whims of individual support people. But you can also download most Garmin track logs to the free Google Earth program (versions 5 and above). If you don't own Mapsource I suggest looking at Google Earth.

TRACK

Where do you find the track. I have GPS 855.

Tutorial on Track Logs

Take a look at this link:

http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/page6.htm#track...

It explains some methods of copying the log from a nuvi to a PC and then what can be done with the log.

A new development

If your using the raw logging feature of your Nuvi:

http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=98909

you can now easily convert the gps.bin file to a GPX file, a KML file for Google Earth and directly to Google Maps using GPSvisualizer.com

Convert to GPX: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert?convert_output=gpx
Draw a Google Map: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map_input?form=google
Make a KML file: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map_input?form=googleearth

Note the nav.bin files are NOT supported.

Mapsource

I used Mapsource to download the track but for some reason it was missing two of the tracks. I thought maybe I had the tracking off. I went back to the Nuvi and the tracks are there in light blue but for some reason they won't download to Mapsource. I'll try some of the other methods mentioned here. Thanks for posting.
