I would like to do the lifetime but I'm concerned that my C340 won't be able to handle the size of the updates. Planned obsolescence is a wonderful thing, ain't it?

my two 360's, 370 and the 350, are taking the updates very well!!

Can I sell it?

If I want to sell my Nuvi 760 which has life time map updates, can the buyer continue to get the updates? I know the updates are tied to the unit serial number but are they also tied to me?

¹If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime™ subscription (sold separately), you will receive up to four (4) map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for one (1) compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. The updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the same map data originally included with your Garmin product, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD card or a SD card (as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD card or SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this Agreement. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product.

You have to login to get the update. Do you really want to give someone else your password to your Garmin account, especially if you have bought something from the Garmin site with a credit card. They could order stuff and have it shipped elswhere or maybe download "Extras".

Just updated my 1490T on Sunday and it is version NT 2011.20...

The bad thing was though that the new update wiped out all my saved information that I had programmed into the unit...it never did that with any previous update...

Lifetime Map Subscription

Does anyone use the map subscription service? Are updates put out regularly? Would the 2011 map update be available to subscribers before it was made available as a standalone disc?

I bought a lifetime Garmin Map subscription when I bought a Nuvi for my wife in 2009. As I recall, Garmin released four updates in 2010 and I installed each of them in turn. I noticed only subtile changes in the display, but no difference in content though I suspect there was some, particularly in additional POIs.

A lifetime map subscription is a good investment, but I understand 'Lifetime" refers to the period during which Garmin provides technical support for a particular GPS model rather than to the longevity of its owner.

It seems to me the first update last year was released in April. If so, Garmin is late by that standard and I wonder if the slow economy might be responsible for the delay.

Bill

I'd think

I'd think it has more to do with fixing some issues that have popped up with the 2012.10 release in Europe and they don't want to duplicate with the NA maps. For example, Junction View not being updated although the old file was deleted and a similar problem with the TrafficTrends data file.
