POI Icon BMP files

Hello, I'm new here and have been playing with making the ICON files that go with POI files.

Somewhere I read that the BMP should be saved as 16bit, but I can't get 16bit to work on my Nuvi 360. Saved as 8bit works just fine.

I'm also having a problem getting the transparency color to work, I read that RGB 255,0,255 (Magenta) should work, but so far the color just shows on the Nuvi and doesn't go transparent.

Also How would I upload My icon files for POIs that don;t have them or as an additional option for POIs that do...

Thanks

I haven't tried 8bit but 16,24,32 work on the 550. For transparency save in 256 color. 16 or 32bit work as well, 24 doesn't. 256 would be best.

make sure your program supports transparencies and set the background as the 255,0,255 color.
Also make sure you are using the most recent Beta version 2.4.0.1 of the poi loader. That added transparency support. (That may be your only problem)

Rename your bmp to the same name as your poi file. For example if your poi file was "test.csv" you would rename the bmp for that poi as "test.bmp" you would also place both files in the same folder.

You can do a search on this site and there is quite a bit of conversation on this subject.

you can also check out some examples I've posted on the website listed below.

Any further questions just ask and Good Luck!

I got the transparencies

I got the transparencies working by upgrading to the Beta 2.4.0.1 of POI Loader. I think that was my Problem. smile

As for uploading. I was talking about uploading them to this site so other can use them if they want. Is there a way for me to do that? It would be nice to have mine added to the POI download area so others can pick the one they like. smile

Yes, to make them look

Yes, to make them look better. The default icon (at least on mine) is a grey dot. If you create a custom icon (bmp) for the POI file and give it the same name as your POI file, that icon will (should) show up on your map screen on your GPSr instead of the dot.

Having said all that, you don't "need" them. They are just nice to have. That way you can visually tell what the POI is when you see it on your map.

cvs or gpx files only

Well I tested and upload of the BMP file at the provided link and it will not take it. It only wants to see cvs or gpx files.

If I use the contact form that we have, it doesn't have a way to add attachments.
