NuMaps Lifetime Updates

Read many threads on installing the NuMaps Lifetime Update. It was very helpful. Thanks to everyone who contribute on this topic. It took me 4 hrs to d/l and 2 more to install onto my computer and Garmin. Now that I'm updated with 2010 version, will my next update be that long too? How would I know if an update is available?

According to the following site:
http://www8.garmin.com/updatemaps/
the next map update will be released in this month (June).

.

Each update is a full version of the maps, so it will take the same amount of time and possibly longer if the map file is bigger.

The releases this year were in January and April, so the next release will likely be in July if Garmin continues with the "quarterly" releases.

Garmin typically doesn't (or at least hasn't) announce the release dates of the maps very far in advance. But rest assured that you will be able to find out on this site (and others) the day they are released. smile

Thanks Motorcycle Mama - I

Thanks Chewbacca and Motorcycle Mama - I just updated on the 4th. That mean I have to update it again this month.

If they publish one.

Exactly.

They are not guaranteed to release them quarterly. The nuMaps information has always read "up to four times per year".

So you two are saying the

So you two are saying the link I posted doesn't mean anything? Garmin site says "June is map update month". I admit that it's kinda too early for another update knowing that the latest one was released in April.

.

Well, I don't work for Garmin, so I don't know if the link "means anything". But my observations are this.

1. I would interpret "June is Map Update Month" as an advertising slogan, not as an announcement of the next map update release.

2. Garmin has never used the word "quarterly" when describing the Lifetime map update releases. The verbiage specifically reads "nüMaps Lifetime subscription lets you download the newest map data up to four times per year."

3. Garmin has not in the past announced the map update releases very far in advance.

4. If Garmin is actually going to release the maps on a quarterly basis, the next release would be in July not in June.

False advertising

The point is that now, if they don't release an update in June, this will become "false advertising" which is bad business practice, even potentially illegal. Competitors could initiate action for example.

That's not what the ad says.

The ad says June is Map Update Month and then in slightly smaller type it says to update your maps before traveling on vacation. It makes no promise implied or direct about releasing an update to the map database.

Yeah, if you read that page, it's not at all saying anything about when the map update will be released. It's saying get ready for summer by updating your maps.

It's advertising the same as if a business says "August is Back to School Month".

Doesn't mean you have to purchase Back to School supplies at that time.

Notification of Numaps updates

I believe that when I signed up for the 2010 map updates that there was a box that could (should) be checked and you would be notified by email when the next update was ready. I think you even had to reconfirm your email address.

It does make sense when I think about it the second time. It sounds like a reminder to all Garmin owners to get (April) update, if they haven't already got it.
