POI with multiple .JPG'S

OK, so I created a poi file for Colorado ski areas using Mapsource and saving as .gpx file, it contains (I think) 37 locations.

I have no trouble associating a (1) .jpg using the waypoints properties, file/url association method. (naming .jpg same as poi file)

But..... what if I want to associate a different .jpg for each of the 37 locations in the poi file??
I can't very well name all 37 different .jpg's the same as the poi file.

Is this a case where the Tourguide thing would work?
Where all the .jpg's would be named different, but have toureguide in their name as well as in the poi filename and then I would associate each .jpg with it's location using the Mapsource waypoints properties, file/url association method?

Then load all .jpg's and the poi file from the same folder??

Whew... Thoughts??

Mapsource options

But using the Mapsource "Links...File/URL" method, you can just specify a different file for each waypoint - (and it can be located anywhere on your system, so long as POI Loader can find it.) Were you using the File/Url statement as a link to a directory, rather than a file?

Or have I misunderstood your question?

Also, in Mapsource File/URL, there is an <add new link> option (which generates another <Link> statement in the GPX file). This gets totally ignores by my C510, but your Nuvi might honour these extra statements as a way of adding a .JPG and an .MP3, or maybe multiple .JPG's per waypoint?!? I would love to know if it does anything at all.

Personally, I think Garmin should have two versions of POILOADER; one that honours (exactly) the statements in the .GPX file and another that applies the "Eye-of-toad, leg-of-newt" magic for CSV files. I find this business of key-phrases in filenames, JPG's with same name as MP3's etc very confusing.

Using the File/Url statement as a link to a directory, rather than a file has worked if I want to associate both an (1)mp3 and a (1)jpg with a poi.

It's my understanding that the file/url link must point to the folder/file the poi is being loaded from and the mp3/jpg must be named the same as the poi and be in that same folder when loaded with POI Loader.

What I want to do is associate a different jpg with each of my 37 waypoints in 1 poi file.

The add new link option seems to replace the previous link as opposed to adding to it.

So my question is, would the toureguide option work in this case? Where I would have 37 different jpg's, each with a different name and associated with a given waypoint via the file/url method, but each one having toureguide in the name as well as toureguide in the poi filename and load them all from the same folder as the method above.

Hope I haven't been too confusing.....My confusion seems to be growing exponentially:)

Contagious confusion !

So you want 37 waypoints, 37 jpegs (1 per waypoint), and NO mp3's. Correct?
(...he says hopefully!).
In which case 37 separate <link> statements, one per waypoint, each pointing to a uniquely named .JPG file, (not directory), will do the trick.

It's a bit wild...but on a good day, it does create an extra link. I've no idea if these extra links are actually used by anything though.

Sadly neither me nor my C510 are Tourguide-capable smile

Your right, after some reading in the POI loader & Mapsourse help guide(no sense in doing that to begin with;)
I did a test poi with 3 waypoints and associated a different jpg with each waypoint... I did have them all located in and associated to the folder I point POI loader to. (don't know if that made any difference)
I then loaded them and it worked great, each waypoint had it's correct jpg thumbnail which you tap to bring up the full picture. cool:)

Your right again, I think these multiple links work great when working in Mapsource, but I wonder how the gps would treat multiple jpg's, etc with a given waypoint.
Though it would be interesting to see if you could associate both a jpg and an mp3 with a given waypoint.
Ahhh... the more I figure out... the more questions I come up with.

My nuvi does have this option, so I'll have to play with it and see what happens.

Thanks alot for your help.

that's what it did with the Streetpilot. Presumably something out there can make use of it ...

Oh well, a bit more information to add to my big book of Garmin Magic Spells :-)
