So noted for the future. Thanx. As a courtesy, it would have been nice if you had so advised, rather than deleting my article and linking to a completely different one.

Here is the article link. Please edit or delete previous posts, as you see appropriate.

Mostly a Money Maker

While it may reduce some traffic light accidents the main reasons cities invest in the Red Light
Camera system is to generate revenue. There is a very short pay back period and then the rest of all profit.

The next step is to install cameras in parking lots and take a picture of when you come and go. Then automatically charge you for the elapsed time. The end of parking lot attendants.

Are the license plate on red light runners read automatically off the photo, or does a person have to manually read the numbers off the plates? I understand there's usually quite a bit of post processing to pull the numbers off some plates. If it still requires a manual process, the parking lot suggestion for cameras may be more costly than just having parking lot attendants. But give it some time... They already have computerized face recognition technology.

They already have Automated Number Plate Recognition in the UK. Originally touted as a police/traffic safety technology it's now used to charge motorists who spend more than a couple of hours in motorway rest areas!

If you don't like Big Brother now's the time to stop him, not when he's established.

parking cameras :)

If You look closer in at least big cities most of parking spaces have no attendants. They are usually equipped with automated system. At entrance you get magnetic card that is use to make a payment with credit card (in machine) and to open gate when you leaving parking. So there is no need for cameras, maybe only for security wink

red light "safety" cameras.

It is nothing new. After all it was always about "security", but only if it brings handsome profit wink

mayor , can expect some nasty messages from redflex

A number of parking lots in the NYC area (the major airports, etc.) already allow you to use your EZ-Pass (the automated toll system) to charge your parking - drive up to the gate, it reads your pass, and when you leave it calculates the amount, which is billed to your EZ-Pass account.
