Can not get custom alert sounds for POIs on my Nuvu 350 to work

I have added the Redlight-Cameras.mp3 file to my folder, but still get the bong sound on a recent trip to Atlanta. Proximity Alerts is set to Continuous - All Alerts. Not single tone or continuous - speed alerts. What am I doing wrong? File names in the folder all match and POI Loader installed everything, but no Jill saying Redlight Camera Ahead.??

Triple check the file names or re-rename the redlight camera files so that all file names are exact.

Make sure there are no double extensions...ie Redlight_Cameras.mp3.mp3
Make sure the extension is not part of the file name. In other words, if Redlight_Cameras.mp3 and Redlight_Cameras.csv and Redlight_Cameras.bmp were in your folder, all you would see on your gpsr is the redlight locations, with the "bong" sound. You would not see the bmp or hear the mp3. Rename and leave the extension off of the file name.

Just rename the files to ensure they are all exactly the same.

mp3

Your Garmin might not have mp3 support... try it with a ".wav" file first.

nuvi 350 supports mp3

According to the Garmin specs, the Nuvi 350 does have mp3 support (no idea if the Nuvu 350 has it or not). Just a wav file alone would not help anyway, you also need sox.exe and the proper version of it for this approach to work, but I suspect the problem to be a naming issue or some other simple problem.

Just checked and the files

Just checked and the files are listed as Redlight_Cameras.csv, Redlight_Cameras.mp3 and Redlight_Cameras.bmp. Do I leave the csv, mp3 and bmp extension off the file name or only remove the mp3 and bmp from the file name leaving the csv intact?

Leave all the extensions

Leave all the extensions intact.Make sure you don't have double extensions.

If you have xp windows you can go to control panel, folder options, and take the check mark out of hide extensions for known file types. This allows you to id double extensions a little easier.

change only the extension

My advice is to be sure that you have the MS "feature" that hides known file extensions disabled. This one thing is likely the source of more problems with gps sounds than anything else. With all extensions clearly displayed, you want the mp3 name to match the csv or gpx name exactly, including case, but with the different extension. Example Foo.csv and Foo.mp3 (and perhaps Foo.bmp). foo.mp3 will not work, and Foo.csv.mp3 will certainly not work.

Of course, you have to have the proximity stuff working too, but if you got the dings when you approached a POI then that was apparently working.

Ok. Went to the control

Ok. Went to the control panel and took the check mark out of hide extensions for known file types. Well, the mp3 files in the folder did show mp3.mp3 twice. I have corrected that now and will reload the files to the nuvi. Thanks to everyone for the help. Hope it works now.....

That should do it.

That should do it.

?

Does bit rate affect files on a Nuvi? Does it matter if the file is 64,128 or larger? I know that tiny, tinny speaker will not show any difference in a larger file but I was wondering about the device's capability to even work with certain files.
