Casinos and flat, flat land. You could spend some time in the UP of Michigan, which is gorgeous. Mackinaw Island, in particular. But be forewarned...it's not cheap, and vehicles must be left on the mainland.

I'll have to check my old travel logs. It's been about fifteen years since I took the loop from Niagara to Thunder Bay.

Retirement....oh boy.

Turning 65 pretty soon. Full retirement for me is at 67 but I am not looking forward to it. My 401k really got clobbered. I don't think it will recover by the time I am 67. sad

Things don't look good for me either. I think I'm going to get laid-off tomorrow. I'm running this last trip then heading back to the barn. Hopefully the news is good.

I can vouch for the beauty of the UP since I live here. I can also vouch for Mackinac Island being expensive, but it's fun to stay in a Mackinac Island hotel for a day or two. Also fun to go horseback riding there. There's a lot more to the UP than Mackinac though. Try some of the mine tours, the Soo locks, Copper Harbor and the Keweenaw, etc.

Good luck to you and hope you don't get laid-off. Yeah things are pretty horrible right now job wise. Hope you're still working.

Zumo died

drbillk wrote:

Not a Zumo owner but pulled up your manual and on page 62 troubleshooting. It says if unit is locked up or frozen do a re-set.Hold the power button and the zoom in button (+) down for the reset.Other Garmin models that I have seen posted with this problem had to charge the unit for a while and do the re-set.

Don't think it temporary.the union said enjoy the time off...

They gave her severance pay, vacation pay, etc... So it doesn't look like she'll be going back, but we are happy, it will all work out for the best. I have wanted her to quit for several years so I'm happy and so is she... grin

Woohoo!

It's above forty-five degrees in S.E. Michigan.
I'm starting to see some grass peeking out from the fringes of the snow.
Hopefully, the groundhog was wrong and we'll get an early spring.

If it 51 In Cleveland you had better have some ice weather down there, your winter has been terrible, and yes you can say well it beats zero and your right it does. The difference is I expect it to be cold here. an awful lot of 30+ degree nights and 40-50 degree days down there, has to be some kind of recored cold winter for Florida this year.

You are Right about that. This is the coldest I can remember here in FL.We were able to stand on the beach in December a few years back.It has been a while since then we have been able to.Hoping this is the end of the cold snaps.Need to get back to shorts and tank tops.

Warm

Got up to 37 degrees today. Feels positively tropical after the cold we've had. It's supposed to rain Monday night. That should make a mess of things on top of the 3 feet of snow we have on the ground.

Well my family lives all over that area, on the Canadian side. There are 2 basic routes you can take, the boring relatively flat one, Hwy 11, nicknamed the "Sesame Street" and the hilly one, Hwy 17, that sticks close to the lakes.

If you're looking for a beautifully visual trip I'd suggest the lake route, it's very hilly however and not great for big RVs, but it's a gorgeous drive, if you want speed and a slightly shorter trip take the SS.

I've driven both ways and prefer the lake route, even though it takes about an hour or 2 more... The SS is almost mesmerizing and people drive at crazy speeds too.

Traffic Ticket Insurance?

Has anyone heard of TraffiCare?
http://www.trafficareinternational.com/

I heard about it on the news. They will pay your tickets for speeding, failure to stop, red light, etc. and pay any increase in your insurance. The fee for the service starts at $12.95 per month.

Just wondering if anyone has this service. Is it too good to be true?

We had a gorgeous day today. I was in the sunroom washing sanding dust off the woodwork so I can paint the ceiling and woodframes for the polycarb panels. When the afternoon sun found the west side, I had to turn on the window a/c! Yep, it got up to 85 degrees out there. That's one reason we are adding a Bermuda shutter to that side of the room.
