Iowa Senate Votes to Ban Red Light Cameras (old article out of date material)

Edit by Miss POI: This thread contained information from 4-10-07, I will be researching this to confirm that this is outdated information and no longer correct.

The Iowa state Senate adopted a measure that would ban the use of red light cameras in the state.

The Iowa State Senate yesterday voted 28-22 to ban red light cameras. Senator Pat Ward (R-West Des Moines) introduced the ban in the form of a freestanding amendment to a transportation bill that had previously passed the state House.

Although the provision would prevent any cities from adopting programs in the future, it only affects a single currently operational program. Four consecutive county court rulings have already shut down red light camera programs in Clive and Davenport (view ruling) as illegal. Sioux City canceled plans to install its own system, leaving Council Bluffs as the last city in the state running an automated ticketing program.

The results have been mixed at best. Even Council Bluffs police admit accidents increased at at least one of the four intersections with cameras. Davenport likewise saw a massive increase in rear-end collisions following installation of the devices.

The amended transportation bill containing the ban will return to the state House for its final approval and must be signed by the governor to take effect.

Thanks for letting us know,

Thanks for letting us know, I will get those locations removed from the file for next week's update.

Miss POI

You can all move here

This is an attempt to get everyone to move here. Not only are there no red light cameras. the traffic thingy never is active here. Only thing is if you move here, you have to promise not to speed and not to run red lights!

Please, Miss POI, don't remove those Iowa red light cameras. That article is dated 4/10/2007. Evidently a lot has happened since then. Several Iowa cities have cameras, including Clive. See:

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to date the heading of this thread so someone doesn't get the wrong idea and end up in court!

Yup you are right and I

Yup you are right and I would have figured that out before removing them, I always research before making any changes.

Miss POI

traffic laws

Here in Florida, it seems that the only traffic law they enforce is that you can't run over more than two uniformed police officers in the same week.

You are incorrect, the article is not copyrighted.

No! No! No! Copyright, in the internet world, is 'protected when a work has been fixed to a tangible medium' such as a floppy disk or hard drive. It doesn't even have to be posted as 'copyright", it's automatic. This specifically applies to copying material from someone else's website and posting it on another, especially in the commercial environment. In fact, your first posting in this thread is most likely in violation.
