About to through my nuvi 760 Out the Window!!!

I am using my nuvi 760 and ever since the last software update i am very disappointed with it. When I put in a location #1 It does not calculate the route as the fastest or shortest it just seems to pick at random, and #2 I can go to an address from home and then press go home and it takes me sometimes 10 or 15 miles out of the way and a totally different route than which I came. Can anyone help with this or give me any suggestions, before I lose my mind?

Don’t Throw It Out

You need to call Garmin. Depending on which update you went to will depend on what they can do. The last update messed a lot of the 7XX series up including my 780. After working with Garmin for some time, they finally replaced my unit. Don’t try any of the ‘fixes’ that are running around, it will only make it worse. Do call Garmin and work with them for a solution or replacement.

John Every Day Above Ground is a Good Day! Nuvi 360,660 and 780

.

But be sure that you don't have "Avoid Tolls" selected. This can lead to unusual routing.

Nuvi 760

After finally sending my 10 month old 760 back to Garmin because of the 4.0 upgrade fiasco which permanently destroyed my Bluetooth function, I was able to borrow my daughter's retired Nuvi 660 unit. The speed, smoothness, and just about EVERY factor sadly puts my 760 TO SLEEP sad I guess they decided to throw the 700 series together in a cheapskate manner. I do miss the qwerty keyboard function though! My first and only GPS experience was with the 700 series. Two goofed up 750's and then the current 760.

Don't throw it out...Give it to me...

Just kidding. That is one of the reason why I don't do the updates right away because they still have bugs in them.

But Wait, There's More!

Just for grins n' giggles, check to be sure you haven't inadvertently checked "shortest route" in your routing choices instead of "fastest". Also be sure you have "avoid U turns" unchecked. Those two things can really throw routing out of whack.

Cheers

Sometimes

Sometimes you get a defective unit. If you have tried all the above I agree you should contact Garmin or return it where you bought it.. I have 2 760 and have had no problems at all, I am even going to buy a 3rd for my wifes car cause it is now $249.99 at costco. Good luck let us know how it turns out.
Oh By the Way Garmin is really good to deal with.

New Updates From Garmin

All of us are looking for a fix to reported problems or enhancements to the software that will make our units better and more efficient. However, it looks like we are getting fooled alot. We all have software updates on our computers that is worse that the previous version. This is sad and I would expect more from Garmin because of their market share and people like their products.

Just a setting

It may not be the unit at all. It may be that you may have changed a setting without realizing it.

I have tried every setting

I have tried everything and it takes me so far out of the way it isn't even funny!

Sorry you've had a bad time of it

I'll admit, I'm not happy with the slow startup after the latest update, but overall, I'm happy with my 760. Granted, I haven't used any other models, so I have nothing to compare it to, but for me, it's a keeper.

Ha I get the same

Ha I get the same thing...not that far out of the way ...If i'm heading west, it'll tell me to get on the highway heading east only to tell me to get off at the next exit and get back on the highway heading west. =]

Have you called Garmin....

As was suggested by someone else a few days ago ??

What you are describing is NOT normal. You may have a bad unit. A complete replacement might be the "fix".

Are you saying that people

Are you saying that people who buy the 760 recently (I just got it on Black Friday) should AVOID using the WebUpdater to upgrade the different firmwares?

It's not just 760's. It

It's not just 760's. It could be all models. It is a good idea to wait, any how, and let others test it. If it is working well, why mess with it. I am one who likes to jump on anything new, but it can come back to haunt me, such as the 4.0. All is working well now, though. I still like my 760.

I have to give Garmin Kudos

Well Garmin came out with the fix to our little routing problem about a week ago. It is firmware version 4.6, and I must say my Nuvi 760 is better than ever and more accurate. For instance; I have the WAL*Mart POI list along with others, I have the alert set to 1 mile. If i was on the interstate brfore the update it would not alert me if i was within 1 mile and now it does. This is a good update for Garmin!
