What is my 760 thinking?

On our trip from Dana Point back to San Diego Jack tried twice to route us off the 805 only to have us get right back on.

The first time we accepted his offer and exited the freeway at Miramar Rd. thinking he wanted to take us on a different route. Being adventurous we accepted the offer and upon exiting we were instructed to keep left back on to the 805. Since we could exit and re-enter without stopping, it really didn’t slow us down. As a matter of fact our friend’s jokingly said ”maybe this was faster; see if we passed any cars”.

On the second attempt, we just ignored him as the exit would have forced us to stop at the street. As we continued on the overpass Jack said get on the 805.

On our return trip from San Diego to Chandler, Jack’s route would have taken us ~20 miles out of our way even though we have it set for faster time. I could see the possibility as his choice is all freeway driving and my choice is highways, but after deviating from the route our ETA dropped by ~21 minutes.

Since our 2720 has never experienced issues like this, I was just wondering is the 760’s routing algorithm a little screwed up?

I’m really not too concerned as we really bought the unit to get us to where we need to be when in unfamiliar territory. It worked well as it got us to every location and that’s really the important thing.

Maybe next year I’ll set it to Jill and see how she does laugh out loud

That sounds pretty bad. It may be useful to give the software revision level and what avoidances are enabled on your unit.

Yep, that might help......

Software: NT 2009

Firmware: 4.20

Avoidances: U-Turns, Traffic

I know 4.2 had some problems. 4.6 is out now and I haven't heard anything too negative about 4.6 yet.

4.2 caused all kinds of problems.

Definitely check avoidances and was it set for Fastest or Shortest

Update

Go and update to the 4.60,,I have had the same thing driving on the interstate and the gps wanted to exit and re-enter after exit,,did the update so far so good.

I had a similar problem with 4.2. It had me leave I94, enter a side road and immediately reenter I94. Since I updated to 4.6, it let's me stay on I94.

Ditto

Had the same thing happen to me during a custom route. It wanted me to get off two exits in a row only to put me right back on. I ignored it, but I was in the curb lane so the 760 didn't know that I hadn't exited. I have all my settings correct and everything is updated. I haven't been able to recreate it though.

My Street Pilot III will do this whenever ...

- I am using a custom route that includes a few
expressway segments.

- Auto-recalcuate is OFF

- ... and I have the Prefs set to avoid expressways.

My 660 will sometimes pick a different route (have me get off a highway earlier only to take surface streets), depending on where I start the route from. Like literally if I hit the GO button 500 feet too "soon", it gives the wrong overall route. I've also seen it re-route weirdly after traffic alerts pop-up.
