Garmin 750 - can you disable navigation prompts

I just ordered a Garmin 750, and was wondering something.
I can't seem to find this answer searching on-line or in the on-line product manual.

Can you disable voice navigation on a Garmin nuvi 750?
I ask, because I could see myself driving to work each day and wanting to listen to the MP3 player without
the interruptions at every turn.

I mean, I KNOW how to get to work...don't really
need the navigation at that point....just want to
jam to the tunes.

Just curious. Thanks.

Yes

The 750 has three separate volume controls - master, navigation, and media.

.

If you know where you are going, you won't have to set a destination and without a destination, it won't give you any navigation prompts.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Don't route

Just show the map. As long as you don't ask the 750 to route you to work, you won't get voice prompts.

If you do plan a route, you can still mute the navigation audio but keep the mp3 audio volume turned up.

Tools=>Settings=>Volume=> =o)

I like when you leave off the navigation and the lower left becomes a speedometer...I don't need time of arrival. I'll get there when I get there.

i leave navigation voice on

i leave navigation voice on mute, i do like the arrival time, as its nice to know how far i am from arrival, especially for work.

Thats actually the main reason i use GPS.

Navigtion

Navigional prompts should only be heard if you set the destination to work every day. since you know the way to work you screen should say ready to navigate, then give you street names ahead in the banner with no voice as you progress down the street.

Need destination for Traffic Alerts, though

If you are using a traffic system, you have to have a destination set in order for it to notify you that there is a problem on your route. We just can't win....

It's just a machine...it

It's just a machine...it can't read our minds. How is it supposed to know what traffic SNAFUs are relevant if it doesn't know our destination, hence the route? You can always just turn off the navigation prompts, but you'll have to look at the screen more to rely on the text updates.

When driving without a destination set, I've occasionally received alerts of accidents further down the road.

If I turned off the road, the alerts disappeared.

Just found the answer

Hi,

Im using Nuvi55.

Just found out I can disable the navigation voice by choosing the settings under voice, and turning the Audio Mixer volume to zero.

Hope this helps anyone who is looking for this solution in the future.

since this thread was last answered in 2008, I'll bet he found the answer or just tossed the device out the window.
