Garmin Posts Mysterious GPS Firmware Update for nuvi 7x5 Models

I got it for my Nuvi 5000

I got it for my Nuvi 5000 two weeks ago. It did not seem to do anything.

The GPS chipsets Garmin uses are type M and type S

The GPS chipsets Garmin uses are type M and type S and each has it's own firmware.

If you go to the "about" screen that shows your units firmware numbers you will also see the GPS firmware. The last digit is either the letter M or S and you will then know which chipset you have.

My 760 has the S chipset but some newer 760's have the M chipset.

Hi rjrsw. Since I upgraded to version 2.5 on my 765, there doesn't seem to be much info under "About". All it has is Unit ID and Software Version.

If I go to the hidden diagnostic screen it says nuvi 765 v6 4GB P1 S2 330Mhz.

Does this mean it is an S? If not is there any other way to check it?

Touch Tools>Settings>System>About

According to the maunal page 41 you are supposed to start at the main menu screen and the Touch Tools>Settings>System>About to get the info.

You should then see all the software versions for everything along with the Unit ID. One of them should be the GPS chipset info.

That's what I did and I still only get the Unit ID and the Software Version come up. It seems like I had much more information on this screen before the 2.5 update for the 7x5's.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks anyway, rjrsw. grin
