Interesting POI issue? 2009 maps?

While trying to figure out why some of my POI bmp files work and some do not, I think I came across a very interesting issue.
What I found:
Chuck e cheese's worked ok. The graphic shows up in the same spot as the poi that is stored on the garmin.
McDonalds does not work. It always shows up as a grey dot. When I was zoomed in I noticed a food icon on the other size of the street. I clicked it and it said McDonalds.
I tried others and found that any custom POI that did not match the built in poi did not display the custom bmp.

Is this a bug, wrong custom POI location or normal?

Nope

Nope, its the meat. razz

Any of them?

Do any of the custom McDonald's show the icon? If not, I'd say the first thing to check would be to make sure the name of the BMP matches EXACTLY (including case) the name of the CSV file (except, of course, for the extension).

You may have also doubled the extension on the file. (This is a common problem since Bill in his infinite wisdom defaulted Windows to hide the extensions starting in 2000.) If you don't normally see the file extensions in Windows explorer, you can turn them on. In XP:
- Open any file listing window (like 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explorer')
- Choose Tools menu
- Choose Folder Options
- Choose the View tab
- Uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'
- Click OK

The McDonald's POI (from scottk) does work fine.

Is the bmp named the same as the poi?

It sounds like you may have a difference of the Mcbmp than the Mcpoi... Make sure they have exactly the same name excluding the extension and that you don't have a double extension...
BTW If the grey icon was on the wrong side of the street, it probably means the coordinates for the location is incorrect.

In Vista
Press "alt" key before you do the above.

did that already

Did that tons of times already. Like I said, it appears to work when the custom poi matches the built in poi. Does anybody else have the 2009 maps and downloaded the McDonald's poi?

Yes

I have 2009 and the McD POI (and 300k others). They all display fine.

1. Are your extensions being shown in Explorer?
2. Do any of the custom McDonalds display the custom icon?

no

no of the McDonald's display. But, like I said.. It appears that atleast in GA, the built in McDonald's are across from the custom POI McDonald's.
The built in ones display the food icon/bmp, the custom displays a grey dot.

.

The built in POI and the custom POI are not dependent on each other....and are totally seperate entities. Not sure why your seeing this but if others work fine and yours does not, it has to be something overlooked. How close are you zoomed in??

If the Custom-POIs are showing up with the default grey dot icon, the custom icon has not loaded (double extension, misspelled, wrong folder????).

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

not all

Not all custom icons are wrong. All of Chuck E Cheese icons work fine. I checked the names tons of times. They all match and came from the same folder.
