my traffic receiver still shows my subscription as "not activated" and promised to activate as soon, as it gets connection with service. its working all the time, so i don't pay it too much attention
Does it work with 255W?

Does this work with the 255W gps? If it is do I have to purchase the GMT traffic antenna?
Re: Lifetime subscription won't stay in receiver
So, unlock code still won't stay in receiver after expiration of old code.
Called Garmin yesterday & got message that it would be 30 minutes before reaching tech. Dinner was almost ready, so I went the email route (kinda-sorta email on their web page).
Been over 24 hours so far and not a peep from them. They don't even generate an automatic email, just to let you know it's on file.
I am thourghly disappointed, at this point. I just know that the biggest traffic jam ever on I-64 will happen while I can't get FM Traffic, even though it's paid for.
Gamin, if you are listening, time to hire back the laid-off service techs and improve customer service and relations.

Make sure your GDB xx
Make sure your GDB xx receiver has the most recent firmware update v5.50. Get it via WebUpdater (check for additional updates after main firmware update) or do it manually:
1) To download the region file used by WebUpdater, copy and paste this link into your browser
on computer #1:
http://www.garmin.com/software/FirmwareUpdateforGTMxxTraffic...
2) Bring FirmwareUpdateforGTMxxTrafficReceiver_550.rgn to computer #2 where your device is attached.
3a) Then you can drag-and-drop FirmwareUpdateforGTMxxTrafficReceiver_550.rgn onto the WebUpdater icon on your desktop.
3b) Or you can invoke WebUpdater at the command line, passing in the region file as a parameter:
C:\>WebUpdater.exe c:\path\to\FirmwareUpdateforGTMxxTrafficReceiver_550.rgn

Not worth it for me
I paid for my last traffic update and then they came out with the lifetime thing. I was told I had purchased my update maybe 2 weeks too soon to get the free upgrade. What a crock.
However, since my last paid update I haven't received even ONE traffic alert even though I've traveled in areas that have coverage. As far as I can tell, the update I paid for doesn't work at all. I won't be purchasing any further traffic updates of any kind.

If you were responding to my post, I have a GTM 20 receiver. And it has the latest firmware for the receiver.
Got an email from Garmin, sent at at 7:30 AM yesterday (4/1/09), stating that they could not find where I had purchased a Lifetime subscription. Got the email from service provider yesterday afternoon, so I immediately replied at 1:11 PM with attachments of the order confirmation email and the unlock code email.
Guess what, no response yet. This is the pits.
I'm sure they go through the responses sequentially (by time & date), just like Intel does.

Just remember that if the Traffic Alert is not on your route, you are not going to be notified.
I always use a favorite when going to or from work, and it lets me know well in advance of any problems. It even beats the local radio most of the time, because the local radio stations don't break in to tell you of any problems, unless it's a really big one. They usually wait till the ½ hour news break.

Not for me
It always boils down to the same thing with Garmin Support. It just depends on "who" you speak with on any issue. There never seems to be a clear, cut answer or response on a consistent basis. ???
I had a traffic subscription purchased just before it went lifetime and ended a few months ago. I tried asking if they'd grant me a lifetime but they said I'd have to purchase another subscription. Screw Garmin!
Does anyone know if this
Does anyone know if this lifetime subscription is transferrable to newer units? Is it tied to a user, to a traffic receiver, or to a GPS unit?
It is tied to one specific traffic receiver

It is tied to one specific traffic receiver. When you purchase the lifetime subscription you must enter the traffic receivers ID number at the time of purchase. The traffic receiver's lifetime subscription will work with all compatible GPS models that are designed to use that receiver model.

Today's email from Garmin
Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I do apologize but we are currently having trouble with our traffic subscriptions. While our IT people are currently working on a fix for this I have not been informed on when this will be completed. As soon as the issue is resolved we will let you know. If are unable to bear with us I can also delete the subscription from your account and credit you back the purchase price of the subscription. If you would like for me to do this let me know. Again I apologize for any inconvenience.
So, at least it's not the receiver as others appear to be having the same problem.
Wonder how long I'll have to wait for a fix, hmmmmm?

FM Lifetime Traffic Subscription
I saw that Tucson, AZ is on the coverage area but there is no active link. Is it a possible future upgrade theyre going to do or is it active?
Firmware update
They didn't tell me to update the firmware. Thank you now I'll give it a try.

Lifetime Traffic
I bought into it. Here in the Denver area, even when I don't have a route set, I get traffic alerts saying slow traffic in 7 miles and the such.

Still Lifetime on mine
I just got the renewal on my Garmin C340, and it said on the screen when I registered "Lifetime", so I gues it's lifetime.
I guess I'll never get that Nuvi 750

FYI, you can use the GTM-20 with a Clear Channel Lifetime subscription on any number of GPS units. The subscription is NOT tied to the GPS unit but to the GTM unit. The exception is the Navteq Lifetime subscription (which you can also add to the GTM-20). So go ahead and get that 750...

Paid for a year, got a lifetime
My subscription ran out at the end of March and I went online to renew, totally oblivious of the lifetime deal. I went through the whole renewal process online and everything said "one year". When I put the code into my nuvi 660, it came up as a lifetime subscription. It was a great surprise!

RE: MSN Traffic
My unit came with the MSN receiver. Will this receiver work with these other services?
I really liked the traffic service... but I balked at the price. These other services sound like good alternatives.
Don't think so.
but I could be wrong. I understand that the the MSN receiver cable is probably a GDB 50 or 55. I believe the other services require a GTM 20 or 21 receiver cable.

I have a GTM 20 receiver for a nuvi 660 and I live in Phoneix, Arizona. Which subscription do I want..the Navtaq or the Clear Channel? I believe the "premium" or 'lifetime' Navteq is $50, the Clear Channel, is $60.
Good luck

Not that long ago, I'd have suggested Clear Channel since it covered Greater Phoenix and Greater Tucson while Navteq only covered Phoenix.
It now appears that both services cover both areas so I hope someone with experience with each responds to you. I will say that I have Clear Channel and for my few trips down The Hill from Flagstaff, it works for me.
If you travel extensively, Clear Channel offers traffic in 95 regions in North America while Navteq covers only 81 regions.
Thank you for your insight.
Thank you for your insight. It helps.
Traffic Service
I subscribed two weeks ago. I just checked and it does indicate a lifetime subscription.
Canadian Coverage
Does Clear Channel have coverage for Canada? I see that Navteq Premium coverage does seem to work with the NUVI 350, but not 100% certain. It has limited Canadian coverage

[Edit]: I see elsewhere that Navteq may now cover 90 areas, up from 81.
Thanks for the clarification
I haven't gotten around to buying the receiver yet but that's great that the subscription follows the receiver insted of the unit. This way if my gps dies I can try and find a comporable one that will accept that receiver. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
coverage in ABQ?
wondering if anyone is using the clear channel coverage in the albuquerque area?
if so, does it work well? accurate? etc? what is your experience with it?

Some thoughts
wondering if anyone is using the clear channel coverage in the albuquerque area?

Since I fear few folks will respond to this, I'll at least give it a start. I have Clear Channel traffic and have driven through ABQ a few times, but just on I-40 since I've been nuvi-ed. My passthroughs were in good weather and not during rush hour so I got no alerts, so I can't offer much to your question. I suppose I can say that my "no alerts" did correspond to clear driving, so maybe that's a good response for your question...
thanks - trying this
so at least you got a signal? i have the 3760 which has lifetime traffic, but it's navxxx which doesn't cover albuquerque. Clear channel does, but $60 for the subscription, if it doesn't work, is not what I want to do.
thanks for your reply. we'll see if anyone else has any experience or information.

Expires
If anyone has just now signed up for the new lifetime service please let us know what is displayed when you check the traffic service information screen. Does it show a date or just lifetime?
The screen I'm asking about is under Tools>Settings>Traffic
Got mine a while back. It says expires in 2050.

This will depend on which model Traffic Receiver you have. If it's an older one, the antenna is in the lower part of the power cord. Hanging it over the mirror will make a big improvement. Get as much of the lower portion "up" as you can. Don't drape it on the Driver's side, as you don't want it to fall onto the steering wheel whilst cornering - kinda gets in the way.
Newer model receivers may show improvement if you get the "Upper" end of the cable elevated.

Traffic Help Please!
I purchased Clear Channel and entered the code just as Garmin said. "Traffic Provider" shows both NAVTEQ and TTN Lifetime subscriptions and I am STILL getting the Advertisements! How do I get rid of them stinking adds? I am in a area with coverage from both..
Thanks!
Steve
update on Clear Channel subscription
so I went ahead and did the subscription, asked garmin to cut the cost, as I didn't use my 10% for ordering accessories, or for the holiday fiasco in not being able to register etc...
they gave me 10% off. not much but something.
anyway. I have it installed. and it's finding traffic info. none on my route..so i never see an alert. but if I search for traffic there's stuff there. mostly road construction.
I have been in slow and delayed traffic though and it hasn't picked it up.
So my MSN (was that what it was called?) on my older unit had better traffic info, at least in Albuq.
I think the effectiveness really depends a lot on how the local govt reports the info.
YMMV.

Wouldn't it be...
cheaper to go out and buy a 265WT? Wouldn't doubt it!!

Steve,
I believe what you are seeing is correct behavior. With both services installed (Navteq, TTN), you will get the ADs when the receiver is listening to a Navteq station/channel and will not see ADs when the receiver happens to lock on to a TTN station/channel.
You would have to upgrade to a Navteq "premium (non-AD based" subscription to eliminate the ADs.
Unfortunately, on all but some of the newer model GPS, you have no option to selectively control which of the traffic providers your GPS will choose to use.
Frank, MA.
Did I waste money?
I thought the adds would go away with another traffic subscription.. Can I uninstall the Navteq traffic? I really don't want the adds but will not spend any more money..
If what you say is true that is a rip off!
Dang..
Steve
Pretty Disappointing
Since we were going on a long trip that would involve a week in LA the live traffic seemed like a good idea. So I got the GTM 20 with a year subscription to Clear Channel and activated it, but it really didn't do much of anything. On the logon screen it would tell me roads that had traffic issues, but I got no alerts while driving and no rerouting to avoid the traffic. I won't be buying a lifetime subscription---in fact I may never use it again.
Clear Channel
I went to the Clear Channel web site and I download the 30 days trial..The only thing I see a New Icon is a picture of 3 yellow cars inside a triangle.when I click on the triangle it said TOTAL traffic Network US CAN. but it never show me any traffic delays or any constructions or any slow traffic caused by accident, but It used to show me before my GTM-20 exspire..So what is the reason of those 30 days trial if does not show notthing. I just wanted to try I want to get traffic allert ,but I do not want no add.. Does Clear channel as add and what about NAVTEQ..Also when I Click on System and about it show me below the screen Cyclops US+Canada Database
