"Upgrade for Life
You can also renew or purchase a subscription at any time. See our FM Traffic Services pages to purchase a lifetime subscription for Clear Channel traffic.

so what if we have a Nuvi
so what if we have a Nuvi 350 that doesn't have a traffic receiver? I'd have to go get a receiver obviously, right? Sorry for the nub question.

I'm not sure which model is the correct one for your 350.
From Garmin site:
"Compatible Receivers
To receive traffic information on your compatible Garmin unit, you need a traffic receiver and antenna to send traffic information to your navigator. If your traffic-compatible unit did not come with a traffic receiver, you can purchase one separately. Currently Garmin offers the following FM traffic receivers/antennas.
GTM 10
GTM 12
GTM 20
GTM 21
GTM 25"

Lifetime traffic
How long is this offer good till ?
Premium?
Thanks for the posting. Does "premium service" just refer to the lifetime subscription? It's not clear to me what the following means:
Your FM Traffic Receiver may include a complimentary traffic subscription that is ready for you to use. Click the button above to purchase a subscription to Premium traffic for the United States area or to renew an expired subscription. If you purchased a nuvi 265T, 265WT, 275, 755T, 765T or 775T that came with lifetime traffic, you do not need to add or renew a traffic subscription via these pages.
I was told lifetime will be the only program available
How long is this offer good till ?
From what I was told when I called Garmin last week this is the only program they will have. No more yearly, just lifetime.
But remember it is the lifetime of the receiver itself not the GPS unit. The receiver can be used with multiple GPS units as long as they are on the compatible list. For example I could use it and switch to either my 760 or my c550 and receive lifetime traffic service.

Some new models already include lifetime traffic receivers

What they seem to be saying is that some of the new models already have receiver's that come with lifetime traffic already so you do not need to subscribe.

Access Denied ????
I just attempted to pay for the $60 lifetime Traffic subscription.
I fill out all of the information and then it gives me an "access denied" message...
Huh?
---------UPDATE -----------
I tried it a couple of times and kept getting the access denied message. Finally it went through. However beware - I got 2 emails with two different lifetime traffic subscription codes so this wonderful web page interface charged me twice. Now I have to call Garmin...
SO BEWARE IF YOU GET AN ACCESS DENIED message.
Renewed mine 10/18, going to call Garmin
Well the header says it all, I just renewed my $60 subscription and now I see less than a week later I could have gotten a lifetime subscription. I'll be calling Garmin in the AM to see if they will convert it to a lifetime subscription.

My 90 day free service is now expired. I cannot get the unit ID # from my 660 without the service being active. The traffic icon is grayed out, and all I get is an amber color from the receiver.

The receiver is the 12 volt plug correct ? (660)
Let me get this right
The subscription only works for the city you choose correct?
Wherever there is a signal
The subscription only works for the city you choose correct?
If you can pick up the TTN signal, you can pick up the traffic updates. If you live in DC and subscribe, the service will work in any listed area with TTN service.
It's good for the entire area shown on the map
The subscription only works for the city you choose correct?
It's good for the entire US area shown on the map. The map just shows what areas are covered by it.

Debit Vs. Credit

Huh?
I tried it several times with my debit card and it didn't work. Tried it with a credit card and it went right through. Might be a coincidence, but, who knows!!

It's not on the "Where to" traffic icon it's in the settings menu under Tools>Settings>Traffic and then it will display your receiver's code and there will be a Add button below that you use after you purchase the subscription. The receiver must be connected and powered to access the code info.

If this is lifetime subscription, I would buy it. Any one has it subscribed successfully?
I have subscribed successfuly!
I bought the 1 year subscription on 10/18 right before Garmin announced the Lifetime Subscription. I called them this morning requesting an upgrade to the Lifetime because my purchase was so recent. Garmin graciously OK'd it and emailed me a new code for the lifetime subscription.
Below are the complete instructions I received, after following them my Lifetime Subscription went through flawlessly!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Update the Software
Before enabling your new traffic subscription, you must update the GPS device’s software and the GTM traffic receiver’s software.
1. Go to http://www.garmin.com/webupdater to download and install WebUpdater on your computer.
2. Connect the device to your computer.
3. Run WebUpdater, and follow the onscreen instructions. After confirming that you want to perform an update, WebUpdater automatically updates the software.
4. Click Next to check for additional updates for your unit.
5. Select Firmware Update for GTMxx Traffic Receiver and click Next.
After updating the software, you can enter the 25-character code for your new traffic subscription.
Step 2: Enable the New Traffic Subscription
1. Place the nüvi in the suction mount, and connect the power cable to an available power receptacle.
2. Turn the key in the ignition to apply power to the GPS device.
3. Plug the FM traffic receiver's mini-USB cable into the mini-USB connector on the side of your nüvi.
4. From the Main menu, touch the button. Touch Traffic > (Subscriptions > ) Add. Your FM traffic receiver's Unit ID appears.
5. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter your traffic subscription code, and touch Done.
6. A message appears indicating that your traffic subscription is enabled. Touch Done.

screen grab of traffic service screen after lifetime install

The screen I'm asking about is under Tools>Settings>Traffic
I just updated my 760's receiver to lifetime traffic. The purchase of the subscription at Garmin's site went smooth and quick. Adding the lifetime service to the receiver also was easy and the traffic information for both Tucson and the Phoenix area showed up on the 760 in just a couple of minutes.
I had kind of forgotten how handy the traffic delay information updates and rerouting options were after entering a route.
This is a link of a screen grab I just took of the traffic service information screen after the install:

Forgive the dumb question, but with my nuvi 750 and no previous traffic subscription, I want to get off on the right track.
I see that the 750 can use either the GTM 20 and the GDB 50 traffic/power receivers. From what I read in this thread, I assume the lifetime traffic only applies to Clear Channel Traffic. So to subscribe to Clear Channel, I'd need the GTM 20 and not the much cheaper GDB 50, is this correct? So for someone without a receiver, I'd need to spend about $200 for the receiver and $60 for a lifetime traffic subscription. Am I correct--or even close? Thanks.
You need the GTM 20

You would need to get the GTM 20. You can buy the Garmin C550 from Amazon for $130-160 range and that would come with the GTM 20 with 90 days traffic. The receiver will work with a number of different units. You could then sell the new C550 GPS that has some nice features including bluetooth along with your existing 750's power 12 volt power supply cord on Ebay and most likely the receiver would cost you next to nothing. When the 90 days free is over you could then buy the lifetime.

Thanks to all...
I found the traffic unit ID #; I have the bad habit of not scrolling down to expose more options...
Now I have the problem of getting the 'access denied' message after submitting CC info (twice). Anyone tried using Discovercard to purchase their subscription?
edit: AHA! Figured out the 'access denied' prob. I use Mozilla Firefox for 99% of my browser tasks, but decided to try MS IE and it worked first time (with Discover)!
2nd edit: Downloaded updated traffic software, updated traffic software on Nuvi, entered code, accepted no problems, shows 'lifetime subscription', took about 5 min. to get signal, and works perfectly!

RE: A Quick Question From A 750 Owner
When you purchase the GTM 20 it is packaged with a 15 month subscription much like the GTM 12 I purchased 15 months ago. So you won't have to pay the $60 until you have used up your 15 months.
http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/GTM20-FMTMCTrafficReceiver_Ow...
Last if you do a little shopping you can find the GTM 20 for much less than $200, I did a quick look on E-Bay and found them new ranging from $80 up.

Let me know how this comes out. I also just renewed @ $60 for year, and did an electronic plea for the upgrade, "Customer satisfaction" was my ploy. We'll see, cross your(our) fingers!
RE: Me Too Friend
it worked out great, I called the support line this morning (about 5 days after I paid the $60) and politely requested the upgrade to lifetime. Without hesitation it was granted, I would recommend calling rather than emailing, it's much more personal.

Hello guys,
Navigon GPS included lifetime traffic without extra charges with lower price compare to Garmin. Anyone check it out yet?
I researched the Navigon units before I purchsed my Nuvi 255W and MSN traffic receiver and despite having a lot of pretty cool features, the main complaint is the navigation quality. I got a GPS to find the best way to get from Point A to B, so I passed on the Navigon.
Confused Concerning 255
I just bought a nüvi 255 for my wife. I thought it came with the traffic receiver, but now I don't think so. I updated the firmware (both GTM and MSN receivers) so I assume it is now compatible with both.
I don't need the bells and whistles included with MSN but that is the only receiver the Garmin website currently says is compatible. Does anyone know which GTM receiver is compatible with the 255? Do I have to select ClearChannel? NavTeq implies that it is only compatible with bundled units.

Just might add this
I only used it one time in the 6 months that I had it free..it is not really available where I am. It was accurate though when I did need it.

Thanks for the posting. Does "premium service" just refer to the lifetime subscription? It's not clear to me what the following means:

If you purchased a nuvi 265T, 265WT, 275, 755T, 765T or 775T that came with lifetime traffic, you do not need to add or renew a traffic subscription via these pages.
It appears they have separated 'premium' (lifetime only) out since they offer free traffic on the new 705 (205) series units. You can, however, add lifetime Clear Channel traffic to a 705 (205) series in addition to the free NAVTEQ traffic already installed. You are really adding it to the GTM20 and not the unit itself anyway. Those complaining of ads on the new units might want to do this as the pay service is supposed to override the ad supported. (most people wouldn't even notice the ads anyway as they are so small and just seem to want to complain).
I added TTN only because it has more coverage, but would not have it is was not lifetime.

Turned down with a 2 month old subscription
Has anyone tried a courtesy upgrade with a 6-month old traffic subscription?
I did try with a 2 month old subscription, but was turned down.
The person I spoke had a bit of an attitude, She just kept repeating the same "You bought a 1 year subscription, at the end of it you can buy a "lifetime" subscription, that's all you can do!"
My pleadings for a credit towards a "lifetime" subscription or to upgrade to it, just got the same "I am telling you ..."

What I heard was that the ads will be alerts like "you're about to pass McDonalds, would you like to be routed to a big mac?" I do not! I don't want to have to keep avoiding McDonalds on my device (just as I do IRL.)
I have a feeling that many people will buy into the ad-supported devices for the cost and then realize that 1. the ads are a big nuisance and 2. the traffic data is better with FM TMC in most cases.

I called Garmin (my subscription expires July 29 of next year) and was told I would likely get the upgrade but the guy would call me back tomorrow for sure. No call. Several days later I called again and spent a bit of time on hold while the guy checked on it. He said that I would be grandfathered in "soon" but wouldn't give me a new code because "Garmin is being charged a second fee for every account we give a new code for" and therefore I had to wait "until we have our process worked out". He said I would definitely receive a new code in my email "within the next few weeks". Ummmmmmmmmmmm....... yeah, right. How about a new code NOW? Someone else on this site got an immediate upgrade code and his subscription expires the beginning of July next year. Why doesn't my subscription, which expires the very end of July next year, qualify?
