SD Card For Nav?

Does the Garmin option between the internal flash memory AND the SD card storage for it's file usage during navigation? Making the internal mamory as lean as possible, imo, should give it a measurable and noticeable performance is the unit does offer this option.

Wait....what? I'm not sure what you're asking...

SD doesn't seem faster

I've seen no evidence that an SD card is faster than the internal memory in a Nuvi. It seems like the internal memory "works better".

That may be because of a poor SD interface implementation. Faster cards don't seem to help.

SD card question

I have noticed hardly any difference between POI files stored in my Nuvi 200 or on an SD card (SanDisk Ultra II).

Like with everything else, built in flash memory will probably be a whole lot faster than a possible "bottleneck" when reading from a slow external SD card.

I have stored really big files - like the red light camera file - in internal memory and other POI files that are infrequently used on the SD card.

I have stored really big

"I have stored really big files - like the red light camera file - in internal memory and other POI files that are infrequently used on the SD card."

The reason I wanted to use the SD card is that after adding several POI files, including RLCs, I lose the function on my 660 for "More" and Most" details and have to trickle down to Normal. I conclude that it's becoming a memory size issue with the add-ons, correct?

I have other questions then. How are the POI files directed for loading into the card and not the internal memory, and how does the GPS know to access POIs on the SD card and the internal memory for firmware at the same time, or can it? Thanks

.

How are you defining "really big"? How big is the POI.GPI file that results from you running POI Loader to load your Custom POIs?

Also, the unit will read the .GPI files automatically no matter if they are on the unit itself or the SD card.
