Hello all,
Hopefully I posted this at the right place...

- Change "Dr" to "Drive" instead of "Doctor"
- Change "SR" to "State Road" instead of "Stage Road"

You guys provided me a lot of good feedback for my other tool. Hopefully this one will be as useful as the other one. There is still a lot of work that can be done and I will try to include all your requests.
Please post your feedback/suggestions here.
Thanks
Appreciate the information. Gonna have to try this soon!!

OMG, another handy utility that I don't have time to try out! (LOL) When will I EVER catch up!

TABCTL32.OCX
Missing file? Yes, this one is required for Windows XP.
It allows me to put tabs in the programs. You will understand when you'll see it.
Normally, that file is already installed on all computers (more or less). It is part of something else. Do you have Windows XP? If so, just make a google search for the exact file name as listed in the error message. You will find plenty of places where to download it. You can also take it from 4 posts above mine. Just put the file in
C:\Windows\System32. You may have to register it as explained 4 post above. It should work.
For those of you who have Vista, I can't help. It should not be very difficult to solve this issue. If one of you knows it, please post it here.
I apologize for the inconveniences. This file should be part of any system...
About WA=Washington, now I consider it as an official request... LOL! One thing. Karen is an Aussie. I will not be able to do all the States. First come, first serve!
H-O-V
Go for H-O-V.
"H-O-V" is what I would have voted for, if you hadn't fixed it before I saw your question. Thanks for taking care of my request. Looking forward to hearing it.
Vista and missing/bad OCX file
Potential solution from a user:
---
I had the same situation: a vb-program ran fine as admin, but as Standard User it said that tabclt32.ocx was missing or inavlid.
Solution:
- login as administrator
- right-click the ocx-file (search in systemfolders to find it)
- advanced security rights:
-- ADD the Standard User (he wasn't listed)
-- Give the standard user Full Control over the OCX-file; check all the boxes
Maybe you can leave some checkboxes unchecked, I did not care for that.
For me it solved the problem. Hope it does for you too!
----
Others have reported this one (link below) working. Note that it is in uppercase. Try it:
http://www.ocxdump.com/download-ocx-files_new.php/ocxfiles/T...
Let me know if it works.
WA = Washington
WA = Washington is done for Karen & Lee. See v0.43.
I also added the missing OCX file. Keep in the same directory as the program. It should work for XP. For Vista, see post(s) above. Report problems here.

Read posts earlier in this thread discussing the solution.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
How about HwY =
How about HwY = "Highway"
Seems that a lot of the Ontario Highways are spelled as HwY instead of HWY, would this make a difference?

Correct. I made the correction. Now, "Hwy" is pronounced correctly.
This looks like what I was looking for
Can you help me? I use Karen but I live in Southern California. Lots of spanish names here. She pronounces "la" as "lane". I don't understand why, there is no period, so why is it treated as an abbreviation? (Daniel does the same thing.)
And this one I know you can't help me with, but where I live there's an "E" street. She can say "D" Street and "F" street, but for "E" street she leaves off the "E". "Turn right on (pause) street." I haven't tried it with any of the other voices so I don't know if this is specific to her.
I just think that one is strange.
Can you please add expwy as expressway?
Hi Turboccc:
Great program! I find that American Jill is able to pronounce Expy as Expressway. I have several local roads that are (miscoded?) as Expwy and she totally stumbles over that.
Thanks much.

I have been reading through this thread and think this will be fun.Two Questions.
1.I have voice Samantha. Will this proram work with it?
2.My understanding is once you make the change you save the file with the same name as the orginial. Can you rename it something else and retain both files in the voice folder?

Hi iambe,
I looked in Karen, and she has the folowing abbreviation:
" La " will be spoken as " Lane ".
Very important to report the uppercase letters. That can be undone if you want. I can make a patch and " La " will be spoken as " La ". Woiuld you like that?
Next. What the hell is a "D", "E" and "F" street? Are they really a single letter street? I am also a bit surprised you hear a pause. " E " is normally " East ". Please check again the spelling on the display. Is there a dot (".") or anything else? If not, the only possibility is to replace " E " with something else and remove the " East " abbreviation.
Let me know.

Expwy
Hi Turboccc:
Great program! I find that American Jill is able to pronounce Expy as Expressway. I have several local roads that are (miscoded?) as vand she totally stumbles over that.
Thanks much.
Hi cagpsfan,
Makes sense. No abbreviation for " Expwy ". Can you check the spelling and upper/lower case? They are very important. I could patch you something.
Below are the existing associations for Expressway:
Expressway Exp
Expressway Expr
Expressway Express
Expressway Expw
Expressway Expy
If I had to replace one to support Expwy, which one do you think could be removed?
Samantha will work.

Hi charlesd45,
1. Samantha will work. You can use also the "English" tab as well.
2. You have to use the same file name.
Yes You Can And.....

Yes

You should have all files from your GPS backed up on a safe hard drive. That way if you modify something like a voice and it doesn't work as expected you can just replace the file with your backup. While playing with voices you can also change the name of the original file in the GPS (just add a letter like "X") then save the changed file the way the original was named. If something goes wrong you just delete your new file and remove the added letter from the original..voila, you're back to the original setup.
Cheers

There are MANY cities with single-letter street names

Yes, there are many cities that have single-letter street names as part of their street grid. Probably the most well-known is Washington DC, where the letter streets run from A to W, but there is no "B Street" (Constitution Ave in NW & NE and Independence Ave in SW & SE) and "J Street" (letter looked too similar to "I", especially the way it was written back in the 1700s). Also, I is sometimes written as "Eye Street" to avoid confusion with the number "1". Other places that have letter streets are Brooklyn and Manhattan in NYC (there, they're called avenues, e.g., Avenue A, Avenue B, etc.), the Wilmington neighborhood of Los Angeles, downtown San Diego, Sacramento, Modesto, Merced, Fresno, Bakersfield, and probably many others.
-Dave
That would be great!
Yes, it's "La" like "La Brea". Sorry about that. Can it be changed in both Karen and Daniel?
As for the street thing, the screen shows "Left on E St." Karen pauses. Daniel says it correctly though so I wonder what's different.
Here comes v0.46
v0.46
- Added patch for "La" to say "La" instead of "Lane". Used in Spanish countries (All English voices)
- Added patch to pronounce "Eisenhower" as "I-zenhower" instead of "Eesenhower" (Karen & Lee only)
- Added patch for "Expwy" to say "Expressway" instead of "Expwy" (All English voices)
Wonderful, thank you!
Thank you for all of your hard work!
Thanks so much Turboccc
Thanks for making the Expwy patch. Really appreciate it. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

TABCTL3N.OCX File error
I have read the earlier posts concerning TABCTL32.OCX error. I searched my computer and do not have the file on my computer. I run XP, I have searched the windows/windows 32 personally, no file.
My error message is a little different as the file's name is TABCTL3N.OCX.
Would I need both? Should I look for both files and drop in windows32 drive, and register them the same way?
Thanks

Try it!
No harm in trying. Put the files in the directory where the application is and see if it fixes it.

Turboccc, you are to be commended for your patience in trying to address everyone's conflicting requests with compromises. Some of the requests are so trivial they hardly seem worth addressing but you give them all a try.
Missing OCX file: Solution!
Everybody getting the missing OCX file should try the TTS_Speech_Doctor_Install program. It will install all the required libraries. After that, just copy or use the latest version of TTS_Speech_Doctor. I do not want to release a new installer each time. In this case, you are lucky, because v0.48 is the latest...

Everyday is a GREAT day :)
Connecticut
TURBOCCC - I just ran your program and have not used the Nuvi since, so this may be unnecessary. However, I live in Georgia and have an issue with Conn (not sure if it is all caps or not) stating Connecticut instead of Connector. I did not see this list of changes that you made.
The other issue I have noticed in Atlanta is Ind is stating Indianapolis instead of Industrial.
Is it possible to make these changes?
Connecticut
Hi tallgaier,
I thought I did "Ind", but it seems I planned it but never did it.
Look. Making all those special requests takes lots of time. The more I make for one voice, the harder it gets to add a new one. It is also more difficult with longer names. And you cannot imagine the number of requests I get all the time.
So I decided not to make any more updates for now to the Speech-Doctor. I apologize for this. I hope the existing program will be of some use to you.
Best wishes,
Turbo
TTS Speech Doctor
I tryed to change English_American_Samantha.vpm with Speech Doctor but had no luck, FM was still FM.
This was one of the files for the Nuvi 265 that gave the TTS Voice Editor problems.
Farm Road & samantha
I checked and the modification went smoothly. I just checked the file, not what the GPS said so I could be wrong.
1- Are you sure you copied the file back to the GPS?
2- What is written on the display? FM, Fm, FM-, ...
3- Did it say FM or Federation of Micronesia?
Details are important. Thanks,
Turbo
Farm Road & samantha
I did copy the file back.
The text at the top says Hwy 1187 when you are on a route. If you put the cursor on the road it says Fm 1187.
It does say FM 1187. It is actually Farm to Market Road 1187. That is what FM means in Texas. Farm road is sufficient.
I tryed two different versions of TABCLT32.OCX
Thanks, I hope this helps.

Hi jjen,
I got a similar complaint for Canadian Julie. It seems all is fine, but it simply just does not work anymore.
Garmin did something and I do not know what at this time. It is like the abbreviations are not used anymore. They are in the file all right, but it is like they are not called and the substitution is not done. This is pretty surprising because in Julie they even add new abbreviations.
I need to do more tests.
