Nuvi 760 Map freezes w/GTM-20 traffic receiver attached and running

Map freezes while navigating with the GTM-20 attached.
If I navigate the same routes on battery power, no problem. If I attach the GTM-20 at home using AC adapter, and simulate navigation, no problem.
I have to be actually navigating and moving some distance before the map freezes. Only the map part of the screen is frozen. text and voice turn info are still updating. Once the freeze happens, if I go to Menu, then back to map, the map is a white screen that just says "drawing..." forever. If I go to the traffic screen, same thing. Once this happens, only moving the power button to the left and holding for several seconds will fix it. I navigated today on a 28 mile route and the map froze 3 times. Made the return trip on battery power (no traffic receiver) and there were no map freezes and no problems whatsoever.

Anyone have any ideas about this or having this problem too? I've contacted Garmin, and all I've gotten from them so far is that they have never heard of the problem before.

I'd be thankful for any help/comments/advice...

Never saw this with my 760

I have the same setup. When the 760 was new, it locked up once or twice. After upgrading the firmware and 2009 maps, it seemed to settle down. There is a known issue with TourGuides installed. It is also not too hard to make a mistake in MapSource and design a route that will crash the Nuvi.

Freezing 3 times in 28 miles is definitely over the top. Call Garmin and get an exchange.

No problem with version 5.0 traffic receiver firmware

I have the 760 with GTM 20 receiver and have had no problems but I did update the traffic receiver firmware to version 5.0 as I recall.

How do you check the current firmware of the GTM 20?
If downrev, do you update it from the Garmin site?

Check Garmin Web Updater

When you have the GPS hooked up to the traffic receiver the information will show if you check by selecting "Tools > Settings > System > About" in the system information menu option that also shows the firmware version, bluetooth version, etc.

The traffic update will be one of the optional updates that you can choose from when you run the Garmin Web Update program.

My 760 has version GTM 4.70, and the Garmin site shows no updates available. Any ideas why that would be?
