Rest Areas Combined

Hi,

Not sure, but I think I have a problem. I downloaded and installed the RestAreasCombined(Ver.D).csv. It shows New York as one of the states covered. However, when I look at the rest areas it shows the closest one to me as being 1823 miles away (REST AREA WB I-90 MM381).

I'm in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn New York.

Is this correct?.

Did you get a message saying that it had successfully loaded 1953 POIs? I'm sure you read the description showing rest areas in NY. Did you eliminate the extra period in the filename by any chance? I don't understand the inclusion of the extra period. Could the file you are seeing on the unit be a previously loaded file -- not the combined?

POI's

Hi,

I completely removed all custom POI's and reinstalled them.

I ran every file through the POI Verifier II prior to installing them on the Nuvi880. After running the verifier it shows 1953 Rest Area entries. However, the Garmin unit only show eight.

I'm showing about 54 of them since you can only pickup so many. Keep in mind I'm in Bensonhurst. The closest rest area 14.3mi and the furthest being 67.5mi, Try renaming your poi to RestAreasCombined.csv and see if this has a better effect.

You didn't answer any of my questions?

Answer Questions

Hi Bentbiker,

Since I ran a complete reinstall of all my POI's It installed well over 1953 entries. It did not give me a break down of each POI. What I will try is to uninstall all of them and try to reinstall just Rest Areas.

The extra period is/has been removed. There are no other Rest Area POI's in the unit.

Sorry Bentbiker
and
Thanks for the help

When testing/troubleshooting, that is the way to go. One thing you might want to consider trying: I load my POIs onto my SD card. When I want to test a new file, I load it (by itself) onto the unit. I can then easily remove the POI.gpi on the unit without messing up or having to reload my regular POIs.

Do the 8 POIs that you see on the GPS look like any previous file that you might have tried?

POI Loader & The Garmin Nuvi880

Hi,

Well, I found the problem. Seems the 880 does not remove your custom POI's after you run POI Installer and tell it to remove all previously installed custom POI's from your device. It seems to stay in memory.

Here are the steps taken to find/correct this issue.

1. I uninstalled all my custom POI's via POI Installer
2. I disconnected the unit from the computer
3. The system rebooted itself
4. I went to extras and all my custom POI's were still there.
5. I turned the unit off and on again, I then checked my extras and all my custom POI's were still there.
6. I removed the battery
7. Put the battery back in
8. Started the unit
9. Went to extras
10. All custom POI's are gone
11. Used POI Installer to install all my custom POI's
12. Rebooted
13. Everything seems fine, so far

So, if you have the 880 and are having problems, try the above steps to see if it corrects the issue. It worked for me.

poi.gpi

Did you know that when you install custom poi’s. A folder in your GPSr is created called POI. If you open it you will see a poi.gpi file. That can be deleted rather then having you go through many steps.

I just don’t know if you where aware of it or have tried it.

If using Windows, You can find the POI Folder by clicking on Start/My Computer/Your Garmin Drive (whatever letter it may be)/Garmin folder/Poi folder.

Hope this helps.

POI Folder

Hi,

Yeah, I've been through all the folders poking around since I got it. mrgreen

It seems the 880 will not let go of the custom POI's until I remove the battery for some reason. Even if I delete the contents of the POI folder (poi.gpi).

At least I have a work around for this problem.
