760 Battery Charging w/ traffic receiver cable?

Hey all, new user of a nuvi 760. First, thanks for the great information on the site. I wanted to see if anyone has experienced what I have for the 760 and battery charging. I'm using the friction mount with the traffic receiver cable that came with the 760 plugged into the cradle. The lighter plug end is lit green, so I'm reasonably certain there is power to it. Driving to work this morning I got a "low battery alert" on the nuvi screen, which tells me it isn't charging the battery.

Is this normal behavior? I had the unit plugged into the PC for a few hours last night to charge it and it charged to about half power. I assume it takes a fairly long time to charge completely. In any event, I wouldn't have expected a low battery warning if the unit was in the cradle, and the cradle was connected to power via the traffic receiver cable.

Any insight on this would be helpful. Thanks

Andy

Does the 760 use the GTM20? (I believe it does)
On the GTM20 receiver there actually TWO LED's.
One for power, one for traffic reception.
If only 'one' was green, I'd guess it was your traffic LED.
Was it yellow at one point? Did it blink? Then go steady? If so, thats your traffic LED. The GTM20 doesnt require being plugged into a cig lighter to work. Try it. Unplug it from the cig lighter and you'll still have your traffic LED indicating its status.
The 'other' LED is for power. That is also green.
So what you want to have are TWO green LED shining to indicate all is well.
Also.. on the main screen look at the battery indicator. There should be a yellow lightning bolt going thru the batt icon indicating a charge. Compare the state of the icon to when its in the car and on the USB port when charging. When power is applied you should always get the lightning bolt.

No. You should have TWO led's lit on the GTM20.
As far as charging on a PC, the USB port on a PC offers less power than an dedicated charger('wall wart' Wall warts offer a full amp). So charging from a USB will always take longer.

In summary...
You only have one green LED on the cig power supply.
It discharged while in the cradle.
Sound to me like your cig power supply is bad..or your cig lighter receptical is bad(or has a blown fuse).
Try connecting it into another car. Or try connecting another device to your car to figure out if its the cig socket or the gtm20 that has the problem.

Diagnostics

The Nüvi 7xx has a diagnostics page, that will show you the current state of the battery and whether or not it is charging.

Press and hold the 'Battery Indicator' (top right of screen), for a about 7 seconds and you should find yourself in the diagnostics. Hopefully these will be self-explanatory wink

Note: entering diagnostics seems to perform a minor reset of the GPS receiver, so it will take a while to re-establish its postion, when you exit the diags.

I had similar issues. When

I had similar issues. When plugged into AC power, I do not get the battery with lightning bold symbol. Also, I had my unit plugged in for a long trip and the battery did not charge - I could only determine a possible cause of temperature. It was in the direct sunlight thru the windshield. The manual says the bat will not charge if the temp is too high.

I do not know why I dont get the bat charging symbol however.

power LED is towards the plug end

The power LED is closest to the plug end. The "receiving traffic data" LED is closest to the cord end. Which of the two was lit when you used it?
