I have a Nuvi 5000 and Nuvi 780. I have been trying to understand the MSN Direct that comes with the 780.
Am I able to use the same subscription with both the 5000 and the 780 just by switching the receiver cord?
Some posts have said that MSN Direct is independent of the GPS but attached to the reciever, but the Garmin web site says different.
I am new here and look forward to a long relationship.
Why Not Try It
Sorry if I'm missing something, but why don't you just plug the MSN receiver cord into the 5000 and see if it works?

I am not sure which Unit i want to use it on, if I can only use it on one.
I know I can use MSN Direct on either GPS with their own Power cord and Subscription, but if I can use one on both - thats what I would like to do.

The MSN direct cord that came with my Nuvi 680, also works with my Nuvi 770 without a hitch. I have switched back and forth several times and everything works as intended. Ive never seen the connection port the Nuvi 5000 has, but if its the same, I see no reason it wont work with both units. I have called MSN and they told me the MSN Direct power cords/receivers are NOT linked to the units they are plugged into. I have found this to be true.

From what I have seen, the Key code is tied to the MSN Direct receiver, which is technically the power cord. If you are worried that you can not use it on both the devices, the easiest test is that if you have not activated the MSN Direct subscription, plug in the receiver to both devices and see if the same key code comes up. Chances are it will be the same code and there won't be an issue.

I registered my MSN Direct, and it does work on both of my units. However the License information says it is to be used only on "One" GPS.
