I'm a newbie trying to play with POI files on my new Garmin Nuvi 200. After creating a folder including the cvs file plus an icon and an alert sharing the same file name (but different extensions), I uploaded it to the unit. However, whenever I approach a target, only the icon shows up without the alert. Is this because Nuvi 200 does not have the capability of playing sound files? It flashes a few times on the top of the screen with dings. My question is, do I still need to include an alert file in the folder to get the flashes and dings?
Thanks,
Joe
200 Alerts
Check around the site. The 200 doesn't have an mp3 player so it can't play the mp3 alerts. By converting them to wav files and including sox.exe in the proper folder you should be able to get it to work.
Like I said, there are threads here about this very subject so just look around and you will find the info you need.
Try this one for instance:

Joe,
No, the default red bar and audio dings will don't require anything be included in the target folder.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
The defaults will work, but
The defaults will work, but I found out it wasn't a DING, but more of a bong....too quiet to be useful. Using the SOX download (find info elsewhere on site) it's easy to use custom sounds for various alerts. Mine now does more of a da-DING da-DING, and can be heard above the din of traffic.
