Speed advisor software

I currently own a Tomtom 910 & a Garmin Nuvi 660.

The tomtom while on route will advise me, by an audible tone, when I'm speeding. I assume this feature is loaded within the maps since I have done nothing to obtain this service.

I've contacted Garmin support who informed me that they do not provide the feature but in writing stated:

"You might try searching on google, and seeing if anyone has a program that allows GPS systems to do that".

Does anyone know of a site where this feature can be downloaded safely to my Nuvi 660?

Thanks in advance,
TC

Speed alert

I don't think there is a way for that to occur. The speed limits change quite often on each road, so would have to be part of the map. The closest thing for Garmin is the Speed camera alerts file.

Speed alert

No, it would have to be built into their map and software. The Navigons do the same thing but not Garmin.

Speed advisor software

I don't know if it can be done but speed information is in the Nuvi maps. Think about it, when the Nuvi does its calculation for destination arrival time it's map speed info that gets used.

However, I don't think the Nuvi 660 (that's what I have) uses your actual current speed to effect those calculations.

So the issue is, is there any way to use the information that is in the unit (map speed info & actual speed info) to set off an alert?

Sounds like an opportunity for a nuvi hack implementation.

I'm not sure this is correct

I know the Nuvi will display some speed limits that it pulls off its maps. I believe, however, that the ETA calculation is based on average speeds for certain types of roadways. My old 2610 (that was stolen and is sorely missed) had the ability to go in and edit the speeds on the various road catagories).

I would just be happy to have the current speed displayed.

I think you're right on

I think you're right on target with your response, thanks.
I was hoping a nuvi hack had figured it out already but so far no luck.

It's a great feature to have & constantly keeps me aware of my speed.

I think your response is

I think your response is correct.

I was hoping that a nuvi hack had the answer or a way of implementing it.

It's a great feature to have.
