Speed Camera POI upload question.

I am trying to upload speed and redlight POI onto my nuvi760.
I think I know what to do redlight camera POI. one redlight POI file, one alert sound, one icon in a folder with the same name and use POI loader to upload it.
But for speed camera POI, I see bunch of icons and sound files on the download page. (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/7908)
Do I need all of them? As far as I know, poi uploader only takes one icon and sound file with the same POI file name. But these icons and sound files on that speed camera file page makes me feel like I need to use all of them since each icon represents speed zone.
How do I do this correctly? Please help me.
Thanks.

No, you don't

The files are there so that you can CHOOSE the one you want to use with the file. You are correct that only one can be used with any one file.

Please make sure that you read the faq section on installing POIs to your unit. It will save you lots of time and frustration in the long run.

Didn't know that.

Thanks.
I've read FAQ but still I already wasted a lot of time. sad
(For ex: did not know uploading second POI overwrites old previously uploaded one. I uploaded over 20 poi files last night and only got the last one on my nuvi. sad

Anyway, if we can use only 1 icon then I wonder why we have multiple speed icons with all different speed limits?

I was thinking that depends on the actual speed limit of where you are passing, an icon with that speed limit comes up automatically. Also I guessed that depends on certain fields in the CSV file it's possible to link multiple icons to a POI file.

Well, maybe I was asking to much from my nuvi. smile

The icons sometimes do get

The icons sometimes do get confusing. Here is some info from poiloader help menu that talks about alerts that may help.

If a file name contains a valid speed number or if all records in a file have speed encoded in the name, then all records in the file will include speed and proximity alerts. For example, a data file with the file name "Speed_30" generates speed alerts of 30 mph (or kph, depending on the type of units selected in POI Loader) for each POI in the file.

If the file name contains "redlight", POI Loader assumes all records in the file have proximity alerts with a distance of 400m/0.25 miles.

If a file contains "GATSO," "mobile," "SPECS," "safety," "speed," or "camera," but does not have a speed, POI Loader uses a default alert speed of 0, which means you will always be alerted. You can override this default value by entering the speed in Manual mode.

You can also enter speeds for each POI individually by adding the @ symbol and a number after the name of the POI. For example, a Custom POI named "Ridgeview@25" would create a POI named "Ridgeview" with a 25 mph speed alert.

Not sure how you have the files set up for your custom pois but you may want to use subfolders see this node http://www.poi-factory.com/node/8674

Just an addition

Everything above is correct, but you had one additional question concerning the icons. Even if you set up multiple speed alerts within the POI file, you can still only use one icon. In other words, if you to load a file named limits.csv and associate the various speed limit icons with it, the unit would not put the correct one up for the speed limit you are approaching.

Let me know if this has totally confused you and I will try to clarify. Anyone else - if I am wrong on this, let me know.

My first reply would be one

My first reply would be one icon per file but after reading the poiloader help file on the below statement "You can also associate .bmp images with all the data files in a subcategory". Not sure I will stay with that answer.

POI Loader can also associate customized bitmaps (.bmp) with the points in a data file if the .bmp has the same file name as the data file. For example, a customized bitmap named "Speed_30.bmp" would be associated with all the points in the file named "Speed_30.csv" or "Speed_30.gpx." Bitmaps must be saved in the same directory as the associated data files.

You can also associate .bmp images with all the data files in a subcategory. For example, a customized bitmap called "restaurants.bmp" would be associated with all the points in a "Restaurants" subcategory. Custom bitmaps associated with individual file names take precedence over custom bitmaps associated with subcategories.

CSV Vs GPX

All of the above would seem to be related to csv files. If you create a gpx file, each waypoint can have its own bmp. I'm not clear whether an mp3 for an entire file will mess this up since GeePeeEx Editor makes it clear that
"NOTE: POI Loader 2.4.2, will only utilise a single statement, despite the gpx format allowing for multiple such statements. So, for any particular Waypoint, you can use it to associate EITHER a JPEG image, OR an MP3 file for an alert . . . OR a BMP to use as a custom bitmap for the Waypoint."

GPX can have settings per individual POI

This is true of CSV files, but GPX files can have a separate speed, distance and icon set for each individual POI. It would be tedious to set this for each entry in the file, but it can be done.
