Identifying a location for later use in C330

I have a Garmin c330. I recently purchased a lake lot and took my Garmin unit with me the first time I went. After I got there I wanted to set my location much like I do my home location and mark it as "Lake Lot". All I could find was a way to identify it as "002". The unit would not let me save it with a simple easy to remember name. Can anyone tell me how to set a point other than my home location and name it properly for using later.
Please note*** I am not technically inclinded. Please make any instructions simple and complete.
Thanks.

You can edit the favorite

I used to have a c320 which has the same interface as your C330. Unfortunately it died, so I can't give you a perfect step-by-step walkthrough. But you CAN edit the favorite to give it a new name or to change the little symbol that displays on the map to mark it.

Here's my BEST MEMORY of how to do it. Some details may be off, but this is more-or-less the process.

Hit Where To, then Favorites, then that 002 favorite you want to rename.

You'll now be looking at a screen that gives the name ("002") and a big friendly button that says "GO".

But look closer - there are some smaller buttons at the bottom of the screen. One of the is "Edit...". Hit that one.

You'll go to a new screen that (if memory serves) gives you three options:

Change Name
Change Map Symbol
Delete

You want the "Change Name" button, obviously. Hit it, and the keyboard pops up, with the current name pre-typed in. Use the backspace button (a little triangle up on the typing line) to erase the old name one letter at a time, then use the keyboard to type a new name.

Hope that helps.

I think we have a candidate for official "user-friendly instruction-writer". Nicely explained.

One other thought

Again, working just from memory; hope this is accurate.

I think that if you look up a location that is listed in the built in map and save it as a favorite, you can only save it with the original name that was in the built in map - but you can use the procedure in my previous post to change it afterwords.

However, if you drive somewhere and save your current location (Where To, Browse Map, Save) I'm pretty sure that you get offered an option to edit the default numeric name during the save process. Either that same Edit button appears at the bottom at some point, or the default numeric name pops up pre-entered in the typing place of the keyboard screen, and you can just backspace over it and type something else.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but try it and keep your eyes open for either that button or an opportunity to type. I'm pretty sure it's there.

Your memory is fine

You are correct in all statements and instructions. Well said.
