Just bought Nuvi 760 (had Nuvi 350 before)

Got a new Nuvi 760. I like it except that the poor FM transmitter. It's almost useless in a big city like Los Angeles. Anyway it came with 2008 US map pre-installed and I saw that they have 2009 update on their site. Do I have a free update or do I have to pay to get the update?

Also, is it possible to import my favorites from my old nuvi 350 to Nuvi 760? How do I do it?
Thanks.

If you just got your 760,

If you just got your 760, yes, you should be able to upgrade to the 2009.

I have a 760 as well. I live near Dallas, so my FM transmitter isn't any better. I am fortunate that my Honda has a iPod auxiliary plug in, so I use that. If your car has that, I would recommend doing that as well. Or, there are other devices I have read about on this board that you can use.

Not sure about transfering favorites. You would think you could somehow, but as sure as I say that, you probably won't be able to. I am not a computer guru, unfortunately.

I think you will really like your 760.

.

There is a .gpx Favorites file in the Garmin folder for your 350. I'm guessing that you should just be able to move a copy of that to the new unit and have your favorites in both units.

I figured it out. All I

I figured it out.
All I needed to do was to copy Current.gpx file from 350 to 760.
Yeah, I have an Honda but with no AUX input. Is it difficult to install it myself?

Current.GPX from a 760 to a 350

I copied the current.gpx file from my 760 to a 350 and it load all the favorites as coordinates and not addresses. It just showed the name and long/lat info. When I choose a place and save it to favorites, it's fine. The problem is only with the favorites I imported from the 760.

The custom POIs are fine.

Any ideas on how I fix this?

Try transferring the Favorites from the 350 into MapSource and then sending them from MapSource to the 760. See if that works.

Part of the problem might be that the 350 populates the data fields differently than all other units, so you might never get all the data and might have to enter it manually. But try MapSource.

Thanks

I'll try that. I tried Bobcat and it just put the location name in the address area. I'll have to install MapSource and try that.

I just noticed that Garmin Posted a beta version of MapSource for the Mac today.

cassette adapter is your friend...

If you don't have an aux input, and you do have a cassette player (getting rare these days) cassette adapters work really well, and will only set you back around $10. Do a search for them for lots of comments -- the Sony one seems to last.
