Wife jealous of GPS

She seems to believe that I am trying to replace her with the GPS. She said that she is perfectly capable to provide the directions I need.

Does anyone else have a spouse or significant other at odds with your GPS?

Whoa...

I've never seen anyone become jealous of a computer before, how interesting...

I have, however, had a lot of people tell me what a great device the GPS is, including a hitchhiker I picked up on the way to the west coast. I dropped her in a town off the highway and she wanted to tell me the best way to get back on route. 'Sam' recalculated and she just said 'wow, that's so cool!'.

Remind your good wife that the gps never sleeps and will tell you where to go while your wife is sleeping. With the gps working, your good wife will catch a few winks and be ready to go when you get to where you are going. smile My wife and maps do not get along, so she is happy that the gps will take her job and make mine easy.

Jill doesn't sound as whiny as your wife, Put the GPS in the front passenger seat and tell her to get in the back, then say no back seat driving Jill is perfectly capable to provide the directions.

The problem here is your wife is jealous of a machine.

seems a bit odd to me...but, hey, if she thinks she can do better than the GPS have a little contest...say "find me an Amoco station in Pensicola FL while I find it on the GPS....if you win I'll deep six the GPS" I'm betting on the GPS wink

Wife jealous of GPS

Actually, no, in fact, just the opposite. I bought a Garmin StreetPilot 2730 used about a year and half ago or more. When we flew from home (Minnesota) to Florida I didn't really say much about it, but I simply plugged it in the cigarette lighter plug of the rental car and let it take us right to our rental house. Soon into the drive from the airport to the house my wife told me that we would not be traveling again without a GPS! Not to sound like a Garmin snob or anything, but a few days ago we were in the Chicago area with her Dash Express and we do not like it nearly as much as the old 2730.

Henry

She believes this true, even though I usually have the sound off when she is in the car. 

I appreciate all of the input. I think that when my wife is in the car, I will keep the GPS available but out of sight. If we are lost and my wife runs out of ideas, then I will pull out the GPS (and ask it for directions smile ) and hope that we will be able to use it to navigate to familar territory or find the address we are seeking. My wife is not replaceable, the GPS is.

This may be why she is jealous

The nice thing about the

The nice thing about the gps, as compared to a wife, is the volume control. Ha, my wife told me she could use a volume control on me too.

Yikes, I thought I was the only one with this problem.

I thought I had a unique situation here with the wife and the GPS. Handing my wife a map and asking for directions is like handing a child a loaded pistol! Yet, she despises the GPS and tells me to turn it down or that it is too loud. After 35 years of marriage I have significant hearing loss in my right ear. I am not sure if it is coincidence or if there is a correlation between having a co-pilot on that side of the car and the loss.

I still love her and may just get a set of earbuds!

The Female GPS

Most men I know have given their GPS a female name. My wife Norma named my Crossover Linda and refers to her as a slut.
I bought and brought back from Florida a NUVI 260 for my friend Jim. He had upon order decided to call it Judy after his ex-wife. When I delivered it some two months later, he was away, but his current wife informed him I had called and had brought "Judy" all the way back from Florida for him. He had of course completely forgotten the "Judy" name he had tagged to his NUVI and just about stroked out when he heard "Judy", his ex, was back in his life.
I am sure there are a large number of similarly humourous incidents re GPS personality issues. Attached is a link to a column I wrote regarding my first affair with a GPS named Emily. http://squirrel-pie.blogspot.com/2007_09_16_archive.html
Enjoy
ps. Perhaps we need a POI Topic for Humor- humour, for we Canadians.

Hearing Loss

No hearing loss. The proper term is listening loss. It is a very common syndrome. Most wives suffer it in both ears within a month of the wedding. 39 years married and still I refuse a hearing aid. Silence is golden

She didn't like my first one . . . I had to navigate while she drove (too distracting to do both). It was usually a little too slow and small to get the job done in the car (fine for geocaching) . . . she got me the Nuvi 200W for Father's day . . . haven't had a chance to travel with her and the gps together. I think she'll like this one though.

My wife is use to all my toys. This is the first thing that I have bought that she loves to use when she is out with her friends. So I am giving her my 260 and I guess I will have to buy a Nuvi 760. This was a tough decision for me to make! LIFE IS GOOD

My husband is also jealous of my GPS

I feel your pain; my hubby of 12 years is a long distance truck driver who knows the entire eastern half of the US like the back of his hand and doesn't understand why I need something to help me find my way around on a trip. I usually just use it when traveling without my hubby and let him guide us when we are together. By the way the "selective deafness" others were talking about serves its purpose in both sexes.

What's your problem?

She hates my GPS

mad My wife always complains that theGPS dosen't know it's left from right and giving wrong directions.
All she does is complain.I just turn it off to stop her complaining.

As I see it....

My wife complained that we didn't need a gps... that she was perfectly good at giving directions... and I reminded her that of the time we left Denver heading to Chicago... I went to sleep as we left Denver and I woke up as we were driving into Cheyenne, WY. (It's the oposite direction of Chicago).

With the gps ---
--- we don't argue over maps.
--- we don't argue about whether "Jill" is going or not.
--- we don't argue about who missed the last turn and got us lost.

Yep, gps is a mighty fine product...

Now... if they would make a product to help my wife forget all of my mistakes... which I keep hearing about...

But think of the memories...

For my wife, mistakes like that only enhance our relationship. Once, when starting a trip accross country(from PA to UT), we got lost, literally in my wife's backyard. It took about three hours for her to regain her bearings. 25 years later, we still laugh about it.

Wife and GPS

On a trip to Cleveland yesterday, my wife reminded of an incident that never would have occured if we had our GPS then. We were lost in a residential neighborhood with no obvious way back to a main road. I asked her to use the map to find a way out. I wasn't too patient with her so she just threw the map out the window! Fortunately, she loves the GPS but if it ever fails us, she might throw it out the window!
