7xx 3.x FW bug - "Custom" TourGuide POI Alert - Lock up Issue

Has anyone experienced this TG POI Bug?
1: When the unit powers up when a TourGuide alert (or at the TG POI location) is in range, when selecting a new route the unit will lock up everytime you hit "Go" until you get out of the set range of the POI.
2: Also, when a TourGuide POI alert sounds while on a route, select it and touch "Go" to Nav to it, after it finishes calculating the route, touch "Menu" to back out and stop navigation. When navigation is stopped, select View Map; the device will lock up.
The 760 locks up every time under the above TG conditions.
I also reported this to Garmin Tech Support.
Update 7/16/08:
Apparently it is a 7XX family issue.
Confirmed! This is also in v3.10 released 7/8/08?
Thanks!
Roger That!
I will convert all the e85's to tiur guides and download 4.0 and report back
I will also report back after I do the same.

I tested both scenarios and they worked for me on my 750.

I am very happy to report
I am very happy to report that after I installed update 4.0 and REloaded my E85's as TourGuides, all worked.... I am pleased to say the least.... When the alert sounded, it was great trapedation that I hit the voice icon then the go to icon... But it did work.....

Happy and Sad
I'm happy that this 4.0 update seems to have fixed our freezing issues with POIs. However, I'm a little upset about the way Garmin handled this whole issue. Numerous people reported the problem to Garmin, and Garmin's response was "It's not our problem because we don't handle third-party stuff." And yet one week later we have a software update which magically fixes the problems!!!
Awesome!

Agreed! Typically the engineering staff keeps tight lipped on major updates to the point of product support being the last to know - there are many internal ways of managing the customer in these situations and Garmin needs to do a better job to work with the front office customer support personnel to mitigate these issues.

This is too good to be true... No way will THIS WORK...

Thanks to everyone on this site that contacted Garmin on this issue.
Don't think that they didn't pay attention to the post on this site. I would bet they read every one and saw all the negative publicity being said.
Would hope that it will open there eyes to the big problem with there communications between themselves and there customers.

All good!
All systems go on my end too - Also, I did notice that the route numbers appear to pop up ahead of the vehicle indicator now, instead of underneath it. I can only hope that the traffic icons behave the same way while driving because shortly after it came out from under the vehicle, it would roll off the screen. It was hard to depict the situation being displayed.

Good here too.
As much as people complain about communications, Garmin *DID* fix the problem, and pretty quickly too. With who-knows-how-many-units-out-there, software has to be fixed, tested, and QC'd carefully so as to not introduce a new problem or bring back an old one. So I think I would be inclined to cut Garmin some slack here too, and see this as a positive sign of continuous improvement.

Not fixed yet

They have not fixed the problem. I downloaded the update and tried it out. At first it was working ok but today I used it and had problems with it freezing up again when I tried to detour around a POI but not as bad as before. An I did pay more attention to the lag times for directions. It is to slow if I wait to turn I would pass the turn by about 1 seconds that is plenty at 55 mph.
So cut them slack, NO.
And they have blocked everyone from going back to earlier versions.
I think Garmin should come out with some kind of statement to let us know just what is going on with the 7xx series.
So my opinion of Garmin is getting pretty bad.
At this point I would call the 7xx series a piece of juke until all the problems are resolved. At this point I would not tell anyone to purchase until they fix all the problems correctly.
I have been asked by several people about my unit (760) and told them how much I like the unit with its features but told them the issues I am having with mine.
Two are waiting to see, one purchased different brand and the other purchased Garmin. I’m not sure what unit.
This is just my experience with the unit and my thought’s about it.

No Slack for Garmin

I would cut Garmin some slack if your comments were true. Unfortunately they are not.
"... software has to be fixed, tested, and QC'd carefully so as to not introduce a new problem or bring back an old one." I agree. Unfortunately Garmin has stopped doing that. They release updates which do not fix long-standing problems, and their updates introduce new problems!! So you can hardly say they do any sort of QC.
I firmly believe their problems stem from the simple fact that Garmin has too many different models to support effectively. At this point in time Garmin has 21 different Nuvi models. There will be 28 in September. How can they possibly thoroughly test updates for 28 different models?
Regardless, all I know is I paid a good amount of money for a device which is supposed to do what they advertised. Garmin told me I could add custom POIs, so I should be able to add custom POIs without having my unit freeze. Garmin told me the unit would announce turns, so it should announce the turn before the actual turn, not 50 feet after the turn!!
If Garmin wants to use customers as guinea pigs to test the updates, then Garmin should put us on payroll. Otherwise, Garmin needs to do a much better job ensuring their updates work properly.
