downloaded Rest Area POI file

I'm new at this so I might be asking some stupid questions.
I recently downloaded a Rest Area Combined POI file. The file looks good when I choose extras and Custom POI files. I did not load the BMP file to go with this.
When I pass the entrance I get a speed alert-1MPH in red at the top. How do I change this to get the proper alert 1 or 2 miles ahead? Do I have to download a combined Rest Area Combined with the BMP file or can I just load the BMP file?
Thanks for your help.

If you load
If you load the Rest Areas Combined file onto your GPSr using Garmin's POI Loader application in the manual mode you can set the proximity alert distance to your liking. I, personally, set my proximity alert for this file to 5500 feet which seems to give me ample warning to get in the proper lane with ease and safety.
It's not necessary to load a .bmp file with it but it looks "cool" on the display.

Distance Not Speed
When I pass the entrance I get a speed alert-1MPH in red at the top. How do I change this to get the proper alert 1 or 2 miles ahead?
When you used POI Loader to load the file, it gave you a chance to set a speed alert or distance alert. You inadvertently set a 1 MPH speed alert instead of a 1 mile distance alert. I believe the distance alerts are in feet, not miles.
No, you don't need a custom icon. With an alert set, it is certainly unnecessary.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

That's correct - feet, not miles. When I loaded the rest area file with POI Loader, I wanted 2 miles ahead. I had to enter 10,560 (feet).
I also picked the outhouse as my BMP.

TEXAS rest areas
There is an original file and an amended one, do I need to download both? If so, how do I name 2 files with the same name?
I only see the one

I only see the RestAreasCombined file and not another. Unless you can point me to the other, I suggest just downloading the one (131.9KB) file (plus any sounds or icons, if desired):

Rest areas in Texas.
This file has been updated by Chucky_Charlie on 3-11-08 and is linked as an attachment below. We have stopped using this type of database and we will eventually change them back to something that is easier to update.

The Rest Areas Combined POI file
The Rest Areas Combined POI file contains Rest Areas for all the lower 48 states, including Texas,
and is quite current.
According to the Texas only file listing, it has not been updated for over a year.
If you want just TX locations, you could use RetiredTechnician's POI Verifier application to just get the TX locations from the Combined file.

i am confused
above referance says it was updated 3/08, my question is -- is the update in addition to the original or does it include the original?
I am lazy.

Dear Gary,
I too want to know about upcoming rest areas a couple of miles before the event. As I frequently update my files with POI Loader, I find it quicker to hit five ones in a row for the GPSr to alert me 11,111 feet before the rest area, which is slightly more than 2.1 miles but I can live with that.
