HYDROGEN STATION

California opened the first commercial Hydrogen station today...only problem is the cost is a wash as compared to gasoline right now, its double the price but gives you twice the mileage. Honda will lease you a new Hydrogen car in 2009 for $600 a month so it looks like we will be stuck paying for gas for awhile...

Looks like we would need a Hydrogen filling station poi soon. Looks like they are only building those stations in southern California, so that means you must live in southern California to be able to lease one of the Honda. I think i heard somewhere that it takes 1 Million dollars to make one car. Since, they are making 200 cars that would be 200 million. I think it would be better for Honda to work on something new that would be cheaper and something that we could afford in the next year or two. I'm thinking hydrogen will come into play after 10 years.

Honda FCX Clarity

There are a couple more things.

Apparently the $600/month lease will also include insurance & maintenance.

The environmental benefits are great since the only emissions will be water. So no bad stuff going into our air.

One thing I found interesting is that this is actually a fully electric motor that is using hydrogen to charge the "batteries". Makes it interesting if you could have a hydrogen/plugin hybrid.

But yeah, its expensive right now. People paid a bundle for the GM EV-1 some years back (Who killed the electric car) before GM took them back and demolished the project.

At least some company is taking the first step to find alternative fuels/powerplants. It seems like most company's now just talk about it. Hopefully this one doesn't end up like the EV-1.

I'll wait for the car that runs on water.

The video is impressive. Now, we just have to figure out how to get rid of the oil companies so that the car can be produced.

Well.. its only the most abundant element in the universe. I'd think it would be practically free.

$1M a Car

The first Tylenol cost about $100M too. But the second one cost about a penny. Once you've recovered the startup costs and mass produce, the price goes way down.
