Removing the antenna magnet from Nuvi 350

Can anyone that has actually removed the magnet post some pics of the disassembled antenna once the magnet is removed?

I took the antenna apart, but there is a thin piece of foil covering up the area where the magnet is. I don't want to peel it back blindly, so... Can anyone help me out?

Thanks guys!

Operating the Nuvi350 with antenna closed

Here's a post on GPSPassion that shows how the nuvi 350 can be operated without flipping open the antenna and WITHOUT removing the magnet.

Don't peel!

That 'foil' is the backside of a PCB - don't try and peel it off! The whole PCB just needs prising out of the plastic surround - it's an interference fit.
The back of the surround clips into the hinge, and the PCB's 'mcx' socket goes through the side, which influences the direction that you have to prise things!

I had a stab at a photo.

(Reassembling my camera-phone to put the micro sd card back in, was harder than re-assembling the Nüvi smile )

This is an amazingly easy solution for those of us with flip up antennas. I made the little plastic insert described at the end, with a metal piece in the corner and it works beautifully. The best of all worlds -- temporary, reversible, and easy. What more could a pedestrian ask.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Thanks hornybyp

That pic was just what I needed! The magnet is now removed from my Nuvi.

Thanks also for those of you that suggested that gpspassion post. I had actually seen it before, but just didn't like it as much as the thought of disassembling the nuvi. Lol! Thanks guys!

Simulation

Justrob,
Can you still run a simulated route?

Nope

I can't do simulated routes, or any of the other "antenna down" tricks described on this page: http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/index.html
