Has anyone loaded topgraphic maps to their Nuvi? I have a 660. Can the topo map be removed or does it stay forever?

It can be removed but..
You might want to put it on a SD card.... then when you want to use it just pop in the card, most of the maps will fit on a 256 or 512 meg card...

Topo USA 2008

I have Topo USA 2008 on SD cards and keep the appropriate map in my nuvi 750 all the time. It works well for me on Forest Roads and to reach hiking trailheads, although City Navigator is suprisingly good at also showing these Forest Roads. Remember that there's a limit of 2025 map segments so that for me, Topo USA 2008 is divided into 5 maps. Lower 48: SW with Hawaii, SE with Virgin Is, NE, NW; and Alaska.
Although I haven't tried it in my nuvi, I also have the free 1:24000 Arizona Topo which works well in my eTrex. I imagine it'd also work well in the nuvi although the detail may be more than I need for driving--the 1:100000 Topo USA might be better.
To see the map, you need to go to your nuvi map display and uncheck City Navigator while checking Topo.
I find that Topo looks better to me in 2D display while I use 3D for City Navigator.
Give it a try--it's fun.
Great info! Didn't ever
Great info! Didn't ever think to use Topo in 2D. Thanks!!!!......Drew
cool!
cool!
2D is great
I grew up using 2D on USGS maps...2D is awesome but you have to be able to be able to visualize where you are.
