2009 Maps

If im seeing things right, which doesn't always happen, the 2009 map is out for the Garmin. I was told by the salesman, that I should receive the 2009 map update @ no charge since the Nuvi 200W that I purchased has 2008. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that? I have sent an email to Garmin support and well.....their response time seems to be a little slow.

Thanx for the help(in advance)

S.

Register

You first have to register your unit and then go back the next day or so and input your serial number in the map update file and it will tell you whether you will get it or not. YOU MUST REGISTER FIRST.

2009 maps

I registered it last week, the day that I bought it. I went to garmin.com and input my serial and was told that the 2009 is available, and it gave me the option to by the download.

So this means that I have to buy it?

Thanx again,

No you do not have to buy it. First, check your "myGarmin" account. If you are eligible for a free update, you should find two options to get a free update. Either to download the update from Garmin's website (a process my take 2-3 hrs to get the update installed in the unit). OR, to order it from Garmin's web-site but in this case you will be paying around $10 as a shipping fees for the update dvd.

If you did not see any message in your "myGarmin" account regarding the free update, try contacting Garmin via phone.

Copy for backup

I downloaded the map update 2009 for my new 750. Everything installed smoothly. Since I use Mapsource with the map update also, I'd like to put a backup copy of the download on my external hard drive in case there's a new PC in my future.

I'm having a problem copying to my external HD. I keep getting messages that some parts might not save, etc. I sent a copy earlier to the HD but it was extracted. I'd like to have the whole .exe file and components in case I have to reinstall.

Would anyone have any suggestions? I've copied and transferred many files before, but I'm having no luck this time. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rod

Call Garmin. If you ask, they will send you the DVD for free.

Free update

Everyone is correct about the free update. I got mine about two weeks ago via the web. It took almost two hours to download and then another two hours to transfer to my Nuvi 200. The tech at Garmin was very helpful with my download. I had problems at first but found out there was not enough memory. I had to delete all different language prompts except english and British english. I could have gotten the DVD but was told it would take 6 to 8 weeks.
