Listen to MP3 thru auto radio

I have a Nuvi 350 which has a head phone jack. Has anyone ever connected this audio output to their auto radio? I suspect this is frequently done.

My car radio does not have a front panel audio input but I suspect it has one on the back of the unit although I have not had the unit out of the car, which is a 2004 Ford Explorer. Any thoughts?

I have done it

I have a plug on the front of my radio and have used the Nuvi plugged in, it is pretty neat, There are several threads on this. do a search for it and read what others have done to get this feature,
This is one just for a start.

Ipod FM Transmitter

I have Nuvi 660 with built in fm transmitter. When I used the built in transmitter to listen on my car radio was bad. The sounds made a lot of hizzing noise. But when I used my ipod fm transmitter the sounds is excellent. Just plug the ipod fm transmitter on your nuvi head phone out. Hope this help.

Cassette adapter...

You can also try a cassette adapter if the radio in your rig can play cassette tapes -- these adapters are available at places like Target and Radio Shack usually for under $20.

This is what I used to add an aux input to my factory stereo:

They should have an adapter for your Ford Explorer.

You also need an RCA cable from the input module to the GPS unit (attaches to the earphone jack)

It took me about an hour to remove my stereo, add the module, and put everything back together.

You will not believe the sound when you hear it - it's amazing.

Hi k6rtm,

That's what I use on my Nüvi 670 (the cassette adapter) and the sound for music "and" phone calls, is excellent...

Radio Shack

...sells a little FM transmitter adapter which works fine. Just plug it into the cigarette lighter, and tune it to one of several stations that it permits, that's not being used. Works fine.

I agree with the use of a cassette adapter if you have a player, but I would encourage anybody going this route to follow Gary_A's advice and buy the Sony brand. I bought what was handy, Radio Shack, and it occasionally rattles or screeches as the little plastic wheel spins so as not to allow the player drive wheel to stall. Gary says the Sony doesn't do that, and I believe others have confirmed that it is better made.

My car (Mazda3) has a AUX IN

My car (Mazda3) has a AUX IN port that I can use to plug in any audio source, like MP3 player etc.
I have tried to plug the audio out to car audio directly, it worked. The voice guidance worked too. That's all well, except the level of statics is high, which can be heard while there's no voice/music from the Nuvi 350 unit. That being said, I haven't tried to lower the NUVI volume and increase the car audio volume, maybe this combination will lower the static.

I was going to order one to try out. Buy.com web-site said it has sold out, would take my name for first come first serve (ship).

Try this

If your Explorer radio has the 20-pin plug for a CD changer, look at an Axxess FDAUX-20 at replacementradios.com. It adds an aux set of RCA jacks to your radio by just plugging it in. Then you just need a mini-jack to RCA adapter cable.

I just ordered one for my Explorer.

You can get the radio removal tools for a Ford at Wal-mart for about 4 bucks.
