Just installed Audio Input in my car for my Garmin 660

One of the reasons I wanted to get the Garmin 660 was for the FM transmitter. Once I used it, it works great, well ok. No FM transmitter is perfect and if you would to travel say from Arizona to California, you would have to change stations so many times.

Therefore, I have been researching a way to add an auxiliary input to my Honda Accord 2006 VP which doesn't come with one.

I found some after market device and installed it within 20 minutes, it was such as easy install. This morning I am driving my car, listening to the Garmin using the car speakers! It's so so much better

I have a 4GB SD card with lots of MP3 files so no more CD's for me, the music is nice along with the GPS instructions and don't forget the Blue Tooth, it's sweet.

However, when using the Blue Tooth, although I hear people good, they complain that sometimes my voice is choppy. Is this something with one of their software updates? I remember reading about this somewhere, can't remember.

The whole setup cost me $90 to $100, it's worth every Penney

Can you share where you found the device you installed? Sounds like a good option.

I have a Honda Accord 2006

I have a Honda Accord 2006 VP (DX) so this depends on your car.

This is the device I bought

PIE HON03/PC-SON CD Changer Interface/Aux input Adapter for select 2003-08 Honda
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=287

This website can help you select the right one for your Honda. Basically there is a jack where you plug this into and this makes you attach either a CD Changer OR an RCA cable for an aux. input.

In my case I used the RCA cable such as this:
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=164
except that I bought it (the RCA cable that is) from Radio Shack for half the price. I would recommend the 6ft.

For the best install instructions for the Honda Accord, look at this step by step instructions:

http://www.beaufordbuddy.com/ipod_install_1.htm

you have to be careful that if your car has an XM Satellite or a honda navigation system the installation is slightly different but not that difficult.

The most important part is getting the right device for your car. With mine I was surprised as how easy this was.

The next thing I like to look at is where to best mount the GPS on the Honda Accord. I kind of dislike the window mount and prefer some dash mount but not sure what's a good one and what's a good location to mount my GPS.

Hope this helps,

have a Honda Accord 2006

Are the sites you show only for honda's or do they carry things for all radio's I would look at the bean bag monunt. I use one in a jeep wrangler and it fits perfect on the corner by the gages on the driver side and does not block the view. I got mine from best buy.

I did my research online

I did my research online first and then picked a product from people's recommendations.

If you want a place to start you might go here

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Category/GroupMenu.as...

click on "Auxiliary Input Adapters"

then click on "Please select your car" when the next page loads.

you would select your car and then it would recommend what fits. However in my car model it didn't find the one I installed, so I kind of read what others have done elsewhere online.

best of luck

Sources for aftermarket aux inputs for car audio systems

http://www.pac-audio.com/

http://www.pie.net/

Both have items that will add an aux input to just about any car audio system that does not have one.

Now...if you want a way to plug up to four things into one aux input on your car audio system, you'll need something from http://www.mixitproducts.com/ -- I got one of these, so I can plug my iPod into the mixer, and either of my GPSrs (I can't get all my tunes on a 4GB sd card...) and be able to listen to my tunes, and get my navigation directions. You could also plug in an XM or Sirius receiver instead of an iPod and do the same thing.

Well, here is an idea. If

Well, here is an idea. If you can get an after market audio player to replace the one you have that might be the best and most effective option you have. I have noticed that for $150 you can get a brand new audio player that plays CD, MP3, WMA and have Aux input + USB + Blue Tooth for hands free calling when paired with your cell phone.

If my Honda Accord supports an after-market audio system I would have gone that way and simply bought a cheaper Garmin with out mp3/bluetooth, I would have save lots of money.

Just another idea smile

Yah, I never liked the idea

Yah, I never liked the idea of a CD changer especially when this was installed in my VW in the trunk! Thanks to MP3, no more CD's and CD changers.
