Greetings From Hungary!

Hi Everyone!

Greetings from Hungary!

I was introduced to the GPS world when I purchased my first Garmin nuvi 250. It was really a great gadget that worth buying! I drive a lot in Hungary and nearby countries such as Austria. My nuvi provided me confidence to drive anywhere providing me turn to turn navigation and even I missed a turn, the nuvi was very patient to recalculate and provide me a new route!

Since then, I was hooked up with anything about GPS and I found this GPS POI web community! A great site with a wealth of information!

Recently a week ago, I plunge into purchasing a nuvi 770...great GPS device! Tested all its features and I'm quite satisfied with everything it can provide! However, there was a little bit of problem... there are times (at least 2 incidents) that while driving/navigating through the calculated route, the map view just froze and when I tried to click on other pages/view then back to the map view, then it will show 'Drawing'... The only thing I can do to get out of this situation is to off and on the device. But in the middle of the drive, I can't always do this. Anyone experienced this with your nuvis?

FYI...the 770 is preloaded with Europe and North America Map. I have a SD card Hungary NaviGuide 4.6 that came with my earlier nuvi 250. I plugged this into the 770 and it works, but now I'm suspecting this maybe the problem. Also, even in simulation mode, there were times that the vehicle just stopped and seems like pushing itself into a turn (indicated with a white arrow). I can get away from this by detour or selecting another destination.

I hope anyone with a similar experience or any insight on this matter can share advice/tips.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site;) You

Welcome to the site;) You will have to make a file for all the interesting spots in your area:)

Greetings nfranc1s

This happened to me with my nuvi 750. I have since applied the 2.79 update from Garmin using their WebUpdater and the problem has not resurfaced.

Suggestion: Go to Garmin's website, download WebUpdater, install this program on your computer. Connect your nuvi to your computer and run Webupdater and see if it finds updates for your GPSR.

Miss POI

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm really new to GPS, is there any thread or information on how to create POIs and upload it to POI Factory that can guide me step by step? It will be my pleasure to share POIs but it will be all in Europe, since I'm currently posted in Hungary.

Cheers!

Interesting Problem

Thanks pmiller for the information! I did a firmware update 2.90 after I bought the nuvi 770. I was earlier suspecting that my NaviGuide Hungary 4.6 map (SD Card) maybe introducing the freeze and long 'drawing' map view. How can I transfer this thread to Garmin topics, because I may have some experience on this problem that will be helpful to others in the future.

1. Before I the nuvi 770, I had earlier a nuvi 250 with preloaded map of Europe. Western Europe was fully covered but Central was partial including where I live currently - Hungary. So my nuvi 250 came free with a NaviGuide Hungary Map 4.6. The said map works seamlessly with the preloaded Europe map, even when I cross the Hungarian-Austria border.
2. With my nuvi 770, the NaviGuide Hungary Map SD card from my nuvi 250 works. The map can be seen and I can even see the differences (the NaviGuide is more complete of course).
3. This is the problem. I have it occured twice. I drove from Sarvar, Hungary with the NaviGuide selected (the Euro and US map unchecked) before I crossed the Austrian border, I selected (checked) the Euro map. So what I have was both Europe map and Naviguide running. After I crossed the Austrian border, then before a right turn, the map view froze. I stopped my car, off the nuvi and the map view was still 'drawing'. Went to the Map Info and unchecked the Naviguide, leaving only the Europe map. The map view - ok! Then I drove to my destination in Vienna, without the said occurrence.
4. There was also one occurence, both NaviGuide Hungary map and Euro preloaded map were selected, I did a simulation from Home to an address nearby. The vehicle was maneuvering then it was suppose to turn right but it won't, it was just moving forward and backward - can't perform the right turn. Then I discovered, that in the Euro map, the Hungary map did not have the said road but in the Naviguide has it

Is this a common problem? Is this a device or software problem?

Thanks!

Need Hungary tips

Hey Neil, don't have a solution for you, but was wondering if you could share some other info. I'm travelling to Hungary this June for a few weeks, and was wondering if you could guide me to some of the better things to see. I'll be staying in Keschkemet (probably mis-spelled), and will have to travele by train mostly. Thanks, and if you could reply to my email at bryan.cothren@gmail.com, I would appreciate it, as well as anybody else that knows some good spots.

It's only a couple locations but I made a POI for Budapest. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/12983

Thanks

PaulATL, thanks for your POI's. I'll try to check em out while I'm there. I am hoping to get to spend at least some time in Budapest, but not sure. Thanks again.

Maybe you should ask Garmin

It seems to me that you found the answer, the maps have conflicting information. Your solution of using one or the other seems like a reasonable solution..

I would be interested to know if there was a conflict in the map info when it froze crossing the border..

Oh and welcome to the site.. smile
