Send Google Maps and Mapquest results straight to your garmin GPS

Google and Mapquest have teamed up with Garmin to allow users to import routes and locations that they find on their respective services onto their Garmin GPS. This obviously requires a usb connection of sorts, but should be available on google starting tomorrow.

I'm pretty late with this. I just got back from a trip to Alaska. I'm sure most have figured it out by now -- but just in case...

I wrote a 'Help' article on the Garmin GPS Tricks, Tips, Work Arounds, Hints, Secrets and Ideas WEB site last month that may be of use to some

Look for:

Tips, Tricks, and Undocumented Features

I have used this one in the past for my 2730, even though the guide is for a 2720 they are quite similar:

Tips and tricks links

There are some great tips on your site.

It would be great if Poi Factory could put a links tab to helpful sites such as this one all under 1 menu heading.

Problem downloading from Google Maps - help, please!

Very useful site, thank you Ghayman! Maybe you can help me with this one.

Am trying to send locations from Google Maps to my 750 and have downloaded and installed the Garmin Communicator and it's test page indicates it's working OK. My 750 is plugged in and detected OK by my computer

But when I try to send a location from Google Maps (either using Firefox or IE), and after checking all the right boxes etc., I get this message: "Sorry, we were unable to send this message at this time. Please visit the help page."

The help page is no help - just tells me to install Communicator, which I have done and checked.

Any clues?

Can You send a location from MapQuest?

You might try to send a location using Mapquest rather than Google. If that works, it would indicate the problem is with Google Maps rather than your set up.
================
I just tried both Google Maps and Mapquest and am having problems downloading locations from both. IE reports an error and restarts.

Can points be sent via bluetooth???

I've got it working with Google Maps to send info via USB, is it possible to send info via bluetooth to my nuvi 760?

Google Maps (routing)

Looking through this thread...havn't seen or maybe I missed, but I cant download or see how to download google route to my Nuvi 750.

I have been able to send an address to my Garmin unit and have it show up as a favorite...just cant seem to do the route thing.

HELP!

Maybe I Skipped Over It

I've been looking at all the messages, and I must have skipped it somewhere. I am under the impression that this plug in does not work with the 660, am I correct? That's ok if it doesn't.
In conjunction with Firefox, you all may want to check out SandboxIE, at sandboxie.com. its a too program that will keep the computer clean.

I am not sure if transferring routes works, but if it does, it may be saved in My Data/Routes in the GPS ... if it is there, you just select it and choose import, then it will be in your routes. Let us know how it works out.

They should fix the problem

They should fix the problem where it transfers the coordinates and not the whole address with phone numbers for the 3xx.

This is a difference in the firmware of the 3xx, compared with (seemingly) every other Garmin.
Garmin have already said they aren't going to fix any of the bugs in that range, so changes of this nature stand no chance sad

Looks like they're trying to get rid of all 3xx's because 2009 since they're right now on amazon for $199.

You can do routes from MapQuest, but I absolutely hate setting up routes in MapQuest. The way Google Maps does routes suits me better.

The unit can indeed find a route from point A to point B. But suppose you want to go from point A to point X, then to point B. With Mapquest, you can set up this A>>X>>B route and download it to your unit.

.

But only on units that support stored routes on the unit.

Google Routes

I love google maps, how easy they are to use, and all the information available on them. When they start allowing routes to be sent to my Nuvi I will be in GPS heaven!!

Totally agree!

I agree. Creating routes with google maps to download to a Nuvi (that supports routing) would be awesome.

Google + Garmin!

This feature is great. There's places I found on Google maps that I had no idea how to enter into nuvi. This is fantastic. In the last couple of days, I've entered a number of places preparing for a trip in 10 days. Now, does anyone have a POI for Starbucks? laugh out loud OK, OK, I didn't say that....

Can

I have the Nuvi 760.. Can I go to google, type in 10 different points and send to gps and save them as one of my stored routes... I think the NUVI 760 can save 10 routes... If true, that would save a lot of time.
