Dallas (and other cities) turn off some red light cameras

Not enough MONEY generated and very little "accident" protection (less than 5%) statistically documented.

Rear End Accidents

At the camera monitored intersection by my office I have experienced the event of drivers making a hard sudden stop rather than proceed through a yellow. I have learned to leave more of a buffer than I usually would.

I do get a chuckle out of cities bemoaning the problem of increasingly "law abiding" citizens.

I'd have to agree with

I'd have to agree with kapnketel, I've noticed more and more around here, that people are aware of the cameras and almost scared of them. You have to watch, you can be cruising along just fine, but if the light you're coming up on turns yellow, the person in front of you may slam on their breaks instead of just going through the yellow!

Yup

And this is where the whole argument of "just obey the law" starts to unravel.

It's difficult to follow that supposedly simple advice when what constitutes obeying the law is open to interpretation, and keeps changing.

Maybe that's why I'm suspicious of the argument "Law abiding citizens have nothing to worry about."

...and another

Seems some city council members are actually smart enough to figure out nothing really good from the the red light cameras - just MONEY!

You should be

Especially if you are behind the "law-abiding citizen".

Virtual Cameras

I have noticed in Dallas that a number of intersections are in the red light camera database but there is no camera. Looks like they are getting the maximum benefit with the least cost from those with GPS systems.
