Dumb Questions?

OK -- this may seem like dumb questions, but after loading a new POI file onto my Garmin Nuvi 200, how do I access the information? I successfully installed a POI file for Rest Areas. Will the new information come up in the menu when I search under Points of Interest under a sub-heading (like "Auto Service")? Or do the Rest Areas automatically appear on the map when I approach one? And how about the custom icons? I put them in the same folder on the Garmin as the POI file -- do they automatically show up on the map when a rest area is close?

Thanks for any advice and help!

.

On your menus, they will show up under Extras > Custom POIs. They won't show up with the built in POIs. You will need to search them separately from the built in ones.

They will show up on the map when you are zoomed in close enough. Different models have different levels. Find an area on the map where you know you have loaded some Custom POIs and zoom in (in 2D mode) until you see them. Then you will know the level at which they will show up.

Also, be sure you have loaded them with POI Loader and that you didn't simply copy the file to your nuvi.

See the FAQ pages please (link in upper right corner)

Don't Paste Icons onto the GPSr

You do not load POI's, icons, or custom mp3 alerts directly onto the GPSr. All three should be in the same folder, with the exact same name (except for extensions), and they get loaded by POI loader into a single POI.gpi file on the Garmin.

Thanks for the info! Now I get it. I never would have figured out the trick about naming the icon file the same as the POI file. Is there someplace where this is documented? It worked perfectly.
