Nuvi 660 VS 750 POI Display

I have a Nuvi 660 and recently got a 750. I have been driving around with both to compare.

On the 660 Garmin POI's like universities, hospitals, and large company facilities show up on the map as you drive around. On the 750 I see some POI's like parks but universities, hospitals, and facilities (Like Ford mfg plant) don't show up. When I go to simulate mode the POI's are there and labeled on the 750 map.

One post mentioned zoom levels have to be set at 300 feet; I did that for both the 660 and 750. Another post suggested you had to be in track up mode. That doesn't appear to be true for either the 660 or 750.

I have compared all the settings on both and they are identical.

Any ideas on how to get the Garmin POI's (not custom POI's) to display on the 750?

Map detail?

Are both units Map Detail settings the same?

660 VS 750

Yes both map details are the same (normal) I have set the 750 all the way to the highest detail and the POI's still don't show up.

660 VS 750

Do the Garmin POI's show up on your 750?

`

I've not paid a whole lot of attention to differences between the two. I expect there are differences between the programming at what zoom levels certain things show up - or not.

zoom level

Are the zoom levels set the to the same distance?

660 VS 750

Yes the zoom levels on both the 660 and 750 are set to the same 300 feet. I will experiment with upping the zoom levels on the 750.

The thing that is baffling is that the points of interest are on the 750 map and you can see them in simulator mode so there must be a way to display them.

Any other suggestions? Thanks you.

Same problem with me

I too have the 750 and done everything you have and don't see any POI's, either the one's with the unit or my downloaded ones.

Try zooming all the way in on one of the 2D map modes until you can't zoom in anymore. Then you should see at what zoom level they show up.

660 VS 750

MM I'm starting to think this might be a s/w issue on the 750.

In simulator mode the POI's show up at 300 foot zoom...sometimes.

I notice that when I move my finger across the screen (going from my current location to a place nearby)sometimes the name of the local university will come up on the map and sometimes it won't. I have fooled around enough that I can't see any pattern to it when it does and when it doesn't. Once it doesn't come up you can set the zoom to max 120 ft and it still won't show up. If you move away from the POI and come back it may re-appear.

Maybe I'm missing something here but this seems to be the behavior I see in navigate mode. I'll check it out with Garmin. Any other thoughts?

I have noticed on my 750 map detail of "most" is the same as "normal" on the 660.

Garmin 660 and Garmin 750

660 vs 750

I could not resolve the issue of 660 showing names of parks, universities, and hospitals on the map as you drive and 750 not showing these names on the map.

I started to see this aspect of 7XX series being reported on other posting boards so I called Garmin.

Garmin Tech Bill told me the 7XX series indeed does suppress the names of some map features to prevent "screen clutter" and is different from the way the 6XX series handles this information. He said it was done this way by design.

Personally, I would rather have the option to display it the way it works on the 6XX. When I drive in a new area with my 660 I can identify by name parks, hospitals, large companies, etc. This is not the case on the 750. It does not matter what zoom level, map detail level or display mode (3D, track up, North up)
