Proximity Alert & Music Conflict

I have recently been inching my way towards developing some TourGuide files, and my recent learning step was specifying custom icons and custom proximity alert sounds in Mapsource and saving the gpx.

I am accustomed to the NUVI (660) pausing my mp3 music in order to give directions, take calls on bluetooth, etc. However, I had an odd experience with the custom proximity alerts... First, I wasn't hearing the proximity alert as I drove by one of my waypoints. I thought I must have screwed something up in my learning... Then I realized the NUVI was skipping my mp3 ahead to the next track in the middle of a tune. A few waypoints later, when I was at a redlight and could pay attention to the screen for a moment, I noticed the red alert "header", so I knew something was working. Then I realized my music was skipping again too.

I hypothesized that there might be some conflict with the music and the custom proximity alert. I turned off the music, and sure enough, the custom alerts started to play. NOW, I assume this has something to do with the fact that the custom proximity alert is an mp3 AND the music is an mp3.

Has anyone had similar experiences with conflicts involving playing mp3 music and custom proximity alerts?? Have I done something wrong, or is this a glitch? Also, it got me wondering whether driving by a TourGuide spot would skip my music as well. I would like the music to pause, as usual, and the custom alerts or TourGuide audio to take over briefly... Is that even possible?

Maybe I'm splitting hairs here, but it seems like Garmin included the mp3 / audiobook feature because they realized that if you're routing audio through your radio for bluetoth and directions, then you can listen to neither the radio nor the CD. So it seems odd that trying to use multiple NUVI features would cause such a conflict.

You have done nothing wrong

If you do a quick search, you will find that this is a much discussed problem. Garmin is supposedly working on it. Supposedly the problem is only associated with the latest firmware update and you can downgrade to solve the problem or live with the default (non-mp3) alerts until it is fixed.

apologies and thanks

sorry for posting needlessly. i did search, but kept getting subjects only tangentially related. i apologize if i gave up too quickly.

thanks for your response. i'll consider downgrading for the time being.

BTW, I went ahead and updated the firmware on my 660 to the 4.30 vrsion. It neither fixed this problem (didn't expect it to given the release notes) nor caused any new ones. I just decided to live with the problem until Garmin releases a fix.
