Dead Ends

Not sure the best forum to ask this one in. My Garmin has tried to route me through some dead end/permanently closed road areas. Is there a POI set that deals with this issue?

Report those locations

To Naveteq: http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/submi... and help improve the next version(s) of the maps.

Even though you report to

Even though you report to Navteq, it will be at least 3 years before Garmin update it to its map.

The streets and roads in my community are at least five years old, it's actually been on Navteq's map for 4 years, but still no trace at all on Garmin's City Navigator North America NT 2008.

crying sad sad

And yet...

A road here in Colorado (Central City Parkway) that opened in November of 2005 is on the so-called 2008 (compiled in 2006) NT City Navigator. There really is no guarantee of what will be updated because NavTeq has to have knowledge of a road change before it can be verified and added to the map.

I do find it a bit odd that a road would be included in NavTeq maps but not in the Garmin. I know that Garmin doesn't necessarily use timely data, but anything that NavTeq supplies them with should be included. I can only assume that the data Garmin receives may not even be the most up to date info available.

Interesting Idea

Nobody really answered your question, but I've never heard of such a POI file in my limited time here. However, It might be an extremely useful file if there are many such situations. Roads that have been blocked/closed and those having gates (one was mentioned the other day) might be included with a very long distance alert. Thus, as long as your calculated route was going to take you that way, you'd get an alert early enough to look for an alternative route.

Road Closed POI

Ok. So assuming I was going to start this POI file, can anyone point me to a primer on the best way to do this?

.

Be sure to click on the getting started and faqs sections linked at the top of each page.

Check out this page to see the proper format for the POI files.

The best thing to do is to download a file and take a look at it to see how it's set up.
You can open the CSV files in either Notepad or Microsoft Excel.

Here's a link to helpful software.

Clarification?

Since you are an active two-star member, are you asking about the methodology of building a POI or looking for recommendations on how to get information about closed roads that still show as open on most maps?
