do you know the Language guide can use gaarmin c320
The Language have Contanese ???

Have you tried a Google search on Garmin language guide?

My personal experience is that it is of limited convenience and that a printed pocket dictionary would probable better serve the purpose.

I used it in Quebec last week. I have a very limited knowledge for reading French words and no ability to communicate in the language. In reading menus and signs it was somewhat useful. Although, with a printed dictionary it would have been faster to look up words.

One feature I found annoying is that when you look up a word, it pronounces in the "from" language. For example, if I look up "apple", it provides the translation to "pomme", but it doesn't pronounce "pomme". Instead it pronounces "apple". Fortunately with phrases, options are available to pronounce in both languages. But, I'd probably have to listen a half dozen times before I could repeat it in French.

I could not find anytthing on the Garmin.com site for c320.

I believe the GPS has to be MP3 compatible like Nuvi to use the Language guide.

I can't answer re Cantonese. The sample file only lists a few languages which is probably not a complete list

None of the US market models have Cantonese as part of the Language Guide. The only Cantonese functionality is for the navigation portion, but it is not TTS compatible.

I have the language pack. I got it for a trip to Barcelona and it worked great. Don't use the "Bilingual Dictionary" because it doesn't have a useful function if you want to hear the word spoken. I agree they messed that up.

Here is what I did though that worked great! Instead of the "Bilingual Dictionary" use the "Words and Phrases" and select Words. Then you have the same feature as if you were in a dictionary but NOW you get to hear both apple and pomme. SWEET !

FYI; I can search for words much faster in this than if I carried around a dictionary plus of course it pronounces the words or phrases. The problem with a Dictionary is it is only words not phrases which the Garmin Language pack gives in addition to the words. You can search for keywords within phrases which was neat. Perfect for the tourist in me.

This model might be able to speak cantonese according to the specs on Amazon's website:

I cannot confirm, but I think the nuvi 200 model might be able to do cantonese.

Did a quick search and Overstock.com has an Asian Garmin 350. Not sure if the maps are in the US:

This is good to hear. It is what I would have expected, but it is nice to hear it from someone who has actually used it.

Do you agree with BobHY that only English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portugese are supported by the languange guide?

thankx for your offer, but i know c330 software is not realy work with my lauguage ( cantonese ), because i called garmin to asked for about the software, they said they really don't work what they posted @ their web. i just said, O my God, they don't know what they posted so bad ......

This is such a great idea, unfortunately it doesn't work! Or, at least in does not work for me. After the last update (by Garmin) to the operating system of my nuvi 770 the Language Guide lost much of its functionality. To add insult to injury, Garmin, who knows about the problem, seems very uninterested in fixing the bug THEY introduced. Plus they still sell these on thier website as compatable with the nuvi 770. Shame Shame.

So I strongly suggest that you look elsewhere for translation help. Even if you don't have a 770, you never know when one of Garmin's less than helpful updates will cripple this program. Don't waste your money or time. Rats!

All of the languages work and the entire unit seems much more solid. Well done!

The translator is pretty good, but many of the phrases are still downright wacko. My favorite, the strangely personal:

Can I change my boots?

followed closely by the slightly alarming:

Do you want to play hide and seek? (With the option to change hide and seek to marbles.)

Anyway, MUCH BETTER, but probably NOT WORTH full retail.

I have the Language Guide, love it and use it whenever we go somewhere with language we can't speak. When I look up words I have a voice with both languages to press and the word is provided in both languages.

I bought mine from Provantage also. They have good prices on a lot of items!!

Updated my nuvi 750 yesterday and my Language Guide works great now.

Got mine from Amazon and loaded it up without any problem.

But I have no English to French phrase translation.

I do have the French TTS Voice file loaded.

Anyone experience the same problem ?

I'm going to Europe in a few days and really need the French stuff.

Have you tried the TTS French voice when doing something else, like driving to "le magasin"?
