Nice Find...

I don't know where and how you found this website, but nice. It is extremely accurate. I tried 34 POI and it convereted it to GPX and it showed up on my C530.

Ok, I tried it myself and here is what I have found. One, the comment appears on the second line, which is useless for garmins. Second, the breaks aren't for the nuvi.

This has been my 5 minute experience...lol. Of course, I may have done something wrong, but first impressions, I can make a poi faster by hand.

This is the result I got and it is perfect for the Nuvi

It doesn't see it as two

It doesn't see it as two separate lines??? And it isn't perfect (at least for me) because I want Tampa, FL to go to the next line down.

Easy

After you copy the address to the comment field you can hit where you want the lines to break, it gives you the flexibility to break where you want and the add the phone and comments you want and break them by lines of your choosing, when everything looks right the hit [Submit]

This is from the csv genereated

nuvi 350/360

asianfire wrote:

Asianfire probably was referring to the nuvi 350 and 360 which require <br> in place of the standard linebreaks. Just use Poi Verifier to convert the standard linebreaks to what the nuvi 350/360 require.

Are you sure that you couldn't be more vague..??

What is the name of the file?

What method/software did you use to attempt this with?

What was the error message?

Like the concept, but seems to have some bugs

I love the idea to have the text ready to cut and paste into my csv files, quite often that is exactly what I am after. However, the one test I did seemed to have some sort of bug.

I got the following message:

"There was an warning: The exact location could not be found, here is the closest match: ... -- Continue?"

Now, the closest match quoted was exactly what I had entered in the first place, this was odd and the coordinates were a bit off from what I get directly from google maps, with google maps issuing no warning and getting the coordinates right with the same address.

Anyone experienced anything similar?

I've made some changes

I've changed http://www.cthreepo.com/poi trying to address some of these issues.

First, I cleaned up the description area so that it does not insert a new line when you the address, unless you have already added a description.

I added clear buttons for each line in order to easily get rid of old data. I find that it made it easier to add lots of data.

I made a radio box for using a BR tag instead of the new line for those GPS's that barf on the new new line in a POI.

Thanks for all the input.

Any new suggestions or feed back would be appreciated. I'd like to make this a useful tool.

Bugs - maybe

The Yahoo api does a fuzzy match on the address. If you spell it slightly different it will still find the address. I suspect that there was a minor difference in spelling that Yahoo warned you about, but still returned the same location.

Yahoo and Google might return slightly different locations for the same address for many reasons. They ultimately use the same survey data provided by municipalities, but there may be rounding and precision differences. They might be using different surveys and one might be more up to date. Sometimes addresses are interpolated - if there are 20 houses on a street they are often spaced evenly each 1/20th of the length of the street without regard to actual address location.

And, of course, the GPS data is often wrong for some reason. My Garmin had me "off roading" more than once last Saturday while trying to find a garage sale, and that wasn't from one of my POIs. I hand punched the address in.

Does it work with Nuvi

Yes the garmin Poi maker site lets you save them as .csv so it will work on all garmins

O.K. I tried to duplicate what flaco did. I copied his info for Hooters into the form and hit the "add Poi to list" button and nothing happened

Maybe the program is not compatible with Windows 98 / netscape?

Win 98 Netscape - Obsolete

Sorry, the program uses AJAX and definitely won't work on obsolete browsers. I don't even check for compatibility. I tested the program in FireFox and then in IE 6 & 7. IE 4, Netscape 5.x, older AOL browsers and WEBTV will never work.

I do believe that everyone should try to get into the current millennium. Win 98 has the advantage of running well on older equipment, but then, so does Linux. I have nostalgic feelings for Netscape Navigator, but FireFox is so much nicer.

Garmin POI Maker

I found it to work splendidly, it did however take some trial and error to find out how it works best for my Nuvi 370. It would not accept the gpx format as has been described but it worked well for the csv format. When loaded with the POI Loader from garmin it comes across with coordinates as its title but I found that was easily edited buy renaming the file in excel. If nothing else this will be useful for finding coordinates from an address.

Garmon POI Maker

I tried it out on several locations that I had previously established the long/lat for. The results were very accurate. This site should shorten the time necessary to create POI CSV files.

Garmin POI Maker

I tried it and it worked fine for csv files but the POI loader from Garmin would not recognize the gpx files it produced. I have found that I prefer gpx files because they allow me to put in more info than just a name address and phone number there is a nice converter out there to convert csv to gpx and then gpx to gpi which can then load onto your garmin as a mass storage device and put them directly into the poi folder on your device. It is for the mac however so there may be something out there similar for the PC
